I share a mtd 20 ton splitter with a few other guys and I noticed that a hose has started to go, the return side. i went to tractor supply they only carry the one with the fittings on the end not the other. I tried napa but their hoses were double steel lined and i doubt that a hose clamp would hold it. I looked on mtd parts.com and they want 57 bucks plus shipping for it. anyone else found a cheaper place to get it its the 3/4 i.d.

I'm not sure if heater hose will stand up to the oil or not. The return hose on my Huskee doesn't look much different from heater hose. It's cheap enough to try. If it doesn't work you're not out much.

heater hose might work or not. Most are neorene and not compatable with oil in the long term.

If it is threaded ports, use wire braid hose.

If it is band clamped in place, use a suction hose. You don't need the spiral wire on return (on suction it is to prevent vacuum collapsing the hose) but it won't hurt anything. Suction hose is easy to get and is good to 100 psi or more.

I've had Milton Cat make a bunch of hoses for me but doubt they would be much cheaper than $57 though.

Any chance you can cut off the bit of bad part and refit it on there ?

Might be able to order a length from Northern Tool, check their web site.

Any hydro hose supply house will have it. Non or single wire support will work. It is the fittings that run the price way up.
I just picked up 2 ft of suction hose, single wire support, 1" ID, $20. This was at a hydro hose shop so you know the price was a bit inflated.
Northern has return line hose 3/4" at $19.95/5 ft. #459129-2006

What he said, Any hydraulic shop worth their salt will have it, Less than 500psi rated hose is cheap it should be less that $5 a foot. I can't believe a decent auto parts store didn't have it. Northern tool will be convenient ordering online, add $7 or $8 for shipping , but with 60" you should be able to replace the damaged hose and have a spare.

In almost all cases hose clamp will hold on a return line. The return hose usually carries less than 15 psi, that is the pressure the filter bypass usually opens. Heater hose will end up looking like the hose is sweating fluid.

I bring our broken hose's over to Whites Farm supply and they just make up a new hose that matches perfectly. Time is money too.

Some Napa stores have hose making equ in them and so do most tractor dealerships. The best price I have for hoses is from a logging company that will build me hoses on the side. As someone else said the ends are the big cost unless you have a lot of hose length. And while its a low pressure return hose putting a high pressure hose on will not hurt anything and you should never have to replace it again.
