Has anyone ever purchased a mjolica brown Castine? Just curious how it looks comapred to the Blue/Black enamel? A picture would be great!!

Hopefully deciding ove rthe next week or so!!!

Thanks!!

The majolica finishes are high gloss, shiny. The blue/black enamel has a much softer sheen.

Don't discount the ivory either - a bit different, but it can look great - I have pics that I may be able to dig out :)

they have one on display at the local dealer, I didn't think I would like that color, but once I saw it in person, it looks darn good.

Have the Jotul Oslo in the Majolica Brown. Beautiful, have had nothing but compliments on the stove and the colour. Its so pretty you don't even need a fire to sit and look at it. Glad we decided to spend the few extra dollars for the enamel. Will try and figure out how to post a picture soon.

It's a personal thing. I like the blue-black personally. The blue-black and ivory finish is a different porcelain process. It's tougher, which makes it more crack and chip resistant. However, if you are a reasonably careful person and like the majolica finish, then go for it. To keep it looking nice, never spill water on the hot stove surface and try not to bang into it with a heavy cast iron pot or steamer.

We have a 25 year old Jotul 602 in a dark red majolica finish that is holding up well. So the best advice I can give is to get the one your wife likes the most.

and here's a shot of the Oslo (off the web) in brown and our previous F400 in blue-black.

I saw one in a showroom and wished it was around when I initially purchased my Castine. If your house has an earthtone color scheme I would probably favor it over the blue black.

I am a huge proponent of "classic" lines and "tradtional"decor. I work in the home dec. trade and have seen too many "trendy" purchases that were terribly expensive later regretted. I'm all about expensive purchases being infinitely adaptable. Things that "never go out of style" are the sorts of things I value highly.

Personally, I'd be all over the Majolica brown (or the cream one). I think Jotul manufactures one of the finest looking stoves on the market and if we hadn't fallen so in love with our Woodstock I may well have considered a Jotul for my studio (went with the Woodstock Classic).

I think that glossy enamel brown is subtle, luxe, and beautifully understated. I love it.

I was on the same decision boat. Both colors are great. I would have gone with the brown if the gloss was a little duller. It was ultimately the shine that drove us away and to the blue black. I'd check out a showroom before the purchase. The pic Jotul gives of the brown is a bit deceiving and off color.

Interesting...

...what do you mean by the color was deceiving? Is it darker or lighter than the picture?

I keep asking people for other photos because the only two showrooms near me do not have it in majolica brown in their showroom. I really wish they did so I din't have to bother all of you!!

Trust me with this crowd asking questions is no bother . . . woodstoves are our passion . . . our hobby . . . we love answering questions and helping others . . . heck, some of us even view the whole wood burning thing like a religion . . . yeah, that's it . . . in reality we're a woodburning cult. All hail the power of the secondary combustion . . . and the catalytic combustor. ;) :)

I uploaded a larger shot of the Oslo in brown so that you can at least see the difference between sheen with the two finishes.

The brochure pic just doesn't look that brown to me. I saw one in a showroom and it was a nice richer brown color (better looking than the pic if you ask me). Maybe someone on the site can post a diff pic for you.

Well....we went with the Castine in the Majolica Brown. I think it will look nice and fit the "rustic feel" we are trying to get. It's going to get a corner hearth installation with some stone veneer with tongue and groove pine on the rest of our walls!

I'll post pics once I get started. Probably not until late June (once school ends). Thanks for all of the feedback and private messages everyone.
