Lately, instead of hauling rounds to the shed, then splitting and stacking them, I have been taking the maul out to the woods and splitting out there. Much more peaceful in the woods, and splitting is a nice break from felling and cutting. More variety, and it lets the lower back recover while I work the shoulders a little. Plus, then the hauling is the last big chore, rather than hauling wood to the shed thinking that I still have to split it all yet.

I should mention that my wood-hauling device is strictly human-powered, so after using it I don't want anything else left to do:

Load rating of tires matters when hauling wood.

They look almost like beer!

A tip that I picked up here - hand file your saw chain after every tank of fuel. I just finished 10 cord of white oak and my saw made nice big chips the whole time. If I skipped the touch up it was noticeable by the end of the next tank so I added a quick filing to my cool down/refuel routine. My hand filing technique has definitely improved with all the practice and I think the small amount of time I lose sharpening is made up for in better performance during cutting.

I put an old tire on the stump and place the rounds inside when I split withe my Fiskars SS. It eliminates the bending to pickup splits.

Just a small safety tip .
If You're in Yellowstone park , don't mess with the bears .

Leaves of three, let them be.....and definitely do not use them as a tp alternative!!
