Where do all the pellet burners from Long Island buy their pellets from? This is my first season burning (Harman Accentra insert). I've burned American Wood Fiber, Presto Logs, Appling County. AWF was the best out of those three, although I hope I can do better . My problem is I can't find any of the recomended (by this awesome site) pellets here on the island without paying 330.00 a ton (country boy) . At that price I might as well burn oil. Any help would be appreciated

Check Craigs List. There is a WindowDoor store in Copiague (Bravo) that lists a couple different brands, including AWF. I know Home Depot sells for 299 on.

There are 2 dealers that I know of - Rella Coal and Bethlehem Coal. They both sell and deliver pellets. I have used them both, but the prices are like you mentioned, plus a delivery charge. Some Agway's sell pellets, but you need to haul them your self.

I've recently got a ton of Somerset at Lowes for $278, plus $20 to rent their truck. Hoping to bag another ton if the price drops.

Thanks , I was at Lowes in Farmingdale and Bay Shore and all they had was Natures Heat, American Wood Fiber, and I think Clean Fire. I would like to try the Somersets if I could find them.
Thanks again , Bill

I actually used the Lowes "Natures Own" last year and they burned better than the New England Wood Pellets I got from Bethlehem Coal this year. I am down to about 20 bags so I will be looking to get more before the end of the season.

Gold Coast Flooring in Hicksville has Barefoots for 280 a ton

03-12-10 any long Islanders out there!! Looking for a ton of pellets. The best I could do is appling County 228.00 a ton.

I just got a quote for $280 delivered for Barefoot (which folks on the Forum give favorable reviews). I just picked up 2 bags to test. If they give noticeably more heat then the NEWP I've been using, then I'll go for a ton. Gold Coast Flooring Supply Inc (516) 932-0434 870 S Oyster Bay Rd Hicksville,

Don't fall for the cheap price...there's a very good reason why they're that cheap compared to everything else. The AWF mentioned above is a good pellet, if you can get it for a decent price.

The Barefoots have to be better than the NEWP I used this year. 1 bag left. Next year will look for something better.
Don't think I would use the Appling County. I have not heard good things about them.

rad,
AWF stands for American Wood Fiber . They are a decent pellet . Much better than Appling County. You can find them on craigs list . Bill

The test burn of a couple of bags of Barefoot went well. Was able to drop the feed rate, and increase the combustion fan while maintaining a nice burn on all 5 heat settings. Getting a ton for $280 including delivery from Gold Coast Flooring Supply Inc (516) 932-0434 870 S Oyster Bay Rd Hicksville, NY

FYI - I noticed the bags were not filled all the way, but I weighed them and they came in right at 40lbs. These are probably the densest pellets I've ever used.

I bought Lignetics (a blended hard/soft pellet) from Riverhead Agway for about 290/ton - they delivered. Very ashy pellet compared to white lightening. On long Island we get ***** - I wish I bought a conventional wood stove in hindsight.

I agree, it's expensive here. After the last storm there's plenty of wood around. Although I've never owned a wood stove I would think overall pellets are much easier to burn, maintain, store etc. If we could figure a way to get a truck load of Okies , we could save but even then the transportation cost is what kills us.The best deal I could find around here is for Barefoot. Top quality pellet for 280. You being out by Riverhead might be a problem unless you transport them yourself. Good luck

Ive bought several brands of Lowes pellet. Ive been happy with all of them. 275 a ton. Ive only been buying bags at a time. After 20 years of wood burning the cost of pellets well offsets the mess and work of woodburning. To top it all I never paid for wood. Pellets are cleaner, less maintainence and keep my house at a cozier more consistant heat.

Less maintenance? Not so sure about that. Pellet stoves need constant routine maintenance to keep them clean burning, and there are no electronics or mechanical fans to break in a traditional wood stove. Also, good luck with a pellet stove during a power failure - a battery backup will only get you so far. Finally, have you never noticed the huge plume of dust when you empty a bag in the hopper? Pellet stoves are fine and have their place when there is a relatively inexpensive source of fuel locally available. On Long Island this is not the case, and I wish I researched this more. I originally wanted a stoking coal stove as a supplemental heat source, but there are only two dealerships on LI, and one of them are complete asshats to deal with. Anyways, if you are happy that is the only thing that matters. I have had mine for two seasons now and have burned nearly 6 tons of pellets. While it has kept us warm and toasty, I just think these stoves are not the best choice out here on LI.

I understand your point. My fireplace insert had a fan and was very inefficient if you didn't use it. I ll tell you it was a mess. Hours and hours of splitting and stacking. running out in the cold to get more wood, tracking mud and crap on my floors. the occasional smoke and smell im the room. I get very lttle dust pouring pellets into my stove. I dont drop them in I put the opening in the hopper and let them kinda roll in. I do understand your points but I love the lower maitanence and consistant heat .

Interesting you said this about the ash. I have bought Lignetics as well from Agway in Roverhead for the past two seasons. This season I had probably triple or more the amount of ash as I did last year, and LOT more soot on the glass.

I thought it was maybe my stove just not being as efficient or not quite clean enough.

maybe it was a lower quality pellet...either that or we both didn't clean our stoves enough :)

I am going to try the AWF pellets from Bravo Window and Door...$257 a ton with free delivery and decent reviews on here.

I guess for LI that's a pretty good price, considering it includes free delivery. AWF is a good pellet.

Just got the early buy prices for Long Island Pellet Supply....It doesn't look good! I think the pellet world is going to suffer this upcoming heating season unless oil sky rockets. For the country boy white lighting pellets they're early buy is $345 per ton!!! They are also offering another pellet brand that I know have mixed reviews on hearth.com "Treecycle". There going for a more reasonable price of $285.00 per ton. Add in Delivery for 3 tons $70....and 4 tons $80.... This is a bad sign for the future of pellets especially here on Long Island!

I just got the same letter. Queue the "Price is Right" loser sound...

I got the same flier. It went right in the garbage. At 345. plus delivery my stove stays cold unless oil spikes. There's better options out there.
