I agree, it looks like Maple, and probably Red Maple is a good guess. i don't think it is Norway Maple, but it could be Sugar maple i guess.

Thanks guys! Yeah it's a gnarly mess. All the good stuff is buried under all the branches so my friend is gonna have the town take away the brush so I can go back and get the logs.

I think it's maple, prolly red, too.

Yes, red maple. Not quite the BTUs of sugar maple, but it's about the best we get in this neck of the woods. Makes a nice even burn with good coals.
Definately Maple - I just finished a dump load and 3 pickups of the same in March. Better rent a splitter as my maul and axe bounced off many of the rounds. Too many crothches. I hope mine will be ready come fall. I thought mine was silver maple. It's the tree with the seed pods that whirl like a helicopter when they fall.
This will be my second time splitting red maple and the first one was a twisted up gnarly nightmare. Here I go again lol!
