We had a small fire yesterday. Got another one going this morning as soon as I got up.

Present temperature is 43 and it is raining (just heard some thunder too). Forecast for tomorrow is a high of 43. Tonight and tomorrow night; freezing temperatures.

This is why we do not plant tender plants in early May. Heck, a few years ago a neighbor had bought tomato plants but had not put them in the garden yet but instead just set them in the barn. The next morning they were dead because the temperature that night was 23 degrees!

Todd says snow if forecast for them. I see that the UP has 2-5" of snow forecast. Thankfully, only rain here.

Similar temps and rain here, a nice fire with ash and locust going right now, stove top at 500 on cruise control.

Yep its raining here to and I have the fire going. I also have my thermacell now at the farm for when I need it.

Billy

Billy, our skeeters have not yet hatched. I checked again yesterday for larvae but so far, so good. My wife also just added more wood to the stove.

Yep, had a fire last night and started another one this morning. Burning up last year's splitter trash.

It's been in the 30's at night here the past week or so, even though 60'd during the day. It looks like this might be our last week of 30's though--then no more fires until fall......

Yep, trace to 2" expected tonight, current temp is 35 and we had cold rain all day but now I see a few flurries. Got my Fireview filled with some old dry Elm, probably burn all weekend and next week as well.

Yep. Rained all day and the stove is burning. Mid-size stove like this is just right for shoulder season burns to get the wet chill
out. Next 2 nights are predicted lows of 32 f.

There were some black flies out last weekend. Running the dozer in the woods tends to stir the up. But I am sure they are hibernating now!

Snow season isn't over yet either. I've been expecting this, yet hoping it wouldn't happen. Over an inch so far, and still coming down pretty good.
Forecast for tomorrow is 52 and mostly sunny. Gotta' love living in Michigan (and any other area that has weather mood swings like this).

Looks like that shed is already paying off. Might even be time to let go of the blue tarp. Hopefully, you guys in the midwest got the brunt of the cold and snow, although it looks like we are going to get it tonight. We jumped the gun on the tomato plants in the warm soil last weekend and it is looking like we might regret it.

I suppose we ended up with an inch or so here, but not much stuck, and it'll be melted by afternoon. Another night in the mid 20s, then one more night about 30 and it looks like we're likely to warm up after that. This being Ely, I'd be going out on a limb if I guessed this is the last week or so of the heating season, but I'm hopeful. The winter was so mild we have 3 cords left over. That I DO like.

Tarps are staying until I get the siding done. The rain, and now this snow is blowing in and although the wood isn't getting drenched, it is still getting a little wet.
Went out to get some splits this am, and heard the crack of a branch. Might be time to look for downed wood,.....tomorrow.

A week from Monday I come to Mich. for my job so make sure you get rid of the snow next week.

Been gusting out of the NW, 40-60 kmh for the past two days, heavy rains last night and 2-5" of snow forecast pushing across Lake Huron, Manitoulin Island area. This is exactly why I don't start the veggie garden till after the 24 weekend.
This is what some old timers here call "a baby-making day"
The Regency insert is pushing heat right now, Ash and Willow is on the menu.

oldspark, should be on it's way out of here starting tomorrow.
Where will you be in this very large peninsula we call home?
Bad Axe

We've had a fire in the Liberty the last couple of nights. Got 2.5" of snow last night. I kept a fire going all night and stoked it up this AM. About 35* when I got up. Colder tonight. My GW boiler was been shut down for over a month, sure like the Liberty in the shoulder seasons.

It's what we call the thumb region. It's quite a ways from PapaDave and also for me to Bad Axe (or some call it Bad **s).

85 here yesterday, severe storms last night. It's pretty windy out today. We'll be lucky to make it to 50 degrees, and probably will see low 30's ovenight.

I thought I'd burned the last load of the season already, but, it's looking like I'll be building a fire tonight.

Ha. I was in Canton, OH last night. It was 80 and I was talking to my wife on the phone while she was starting a fire.

Getting ready to build a fire just as soon as I get off here. Used the elec. heat today but it don't make the house warm like the wood does. Forecast saying 32 F for the low tonight. I thought I was done burning till fall.

Burning this weekend man this is a cold spring that's for sure. What a cold, miserable, windy, day here.

I was thinking just the opposite! I can't remember the last time we had 80* days in April here in Michigan! I have a hard time remembering the last time trees leafed out so early. My Catalpa is already budding, that usually doesn't happen till June!

Now the last few days I could do without!

Especially last night. The effects of sustained 30+ wind with gusts over 50, enough snow to cover the ground and temps in the 20s were not the mother's day surprise my wife wanted when she went out to the garden this morning. I guess this is how old timers learn to be old timers.
