The newer gasser are getting better MPG, but the TDI still holds out. The amount of room, cargo room, range, performance, etc pass up a gasser everytime. Toss in homebrew BD and you can't beat it.

Now if you already own a 40+ mpg gasser, it will rarely payback to buy a TDI as a cost savings.

How about the fact that a 95 TDI passat wagon is hand made in germany so its safe and drives very nice. Not only this but these 95-97 passat TDI's are known for going 100,000's of miles. It is not uncommon to see one with 500,000 on it.

Throw in the higher cost of diesel, year-round in this area, and it's closer.

My Mini is a BMW, handles great, and is a hatch with surprising room.
Like I said, I had a VW Beetle TDI for 225,000 miles.

Mine only cost $7k to purchase )

Exactly, that's why I'm looking ahead. I like the roominess and mpg you can get in a VW TDI. I think in three more years there will be loads more choices in diesel and gas, and plug-in hybrids also.

Just trying to keep this thread alive. I have done 5k in my sprinter van on WVO. Runs great, and just sent off my first oil change to blackstone for analysis.

Man reading this post makes me want to go pick up another 300D Benz. I miss that car. I ran WVO in that car once and it ran fine. Finding oil was a pain and when I finally did find some I ended up crashing the car a few weeks later.

Congrats-not to brag but I just turned 40K on veggie oil not too long ago! This summer we're planning our first long trip (Maine) which should cost us less than $20 in diesel between startups and shutdowns.
