Finally decided on a blue/black oslo. It looks like I am going to have to load through the front door. Yeah I know would rather use the side because of ash falling out. So for the people that use the front door what length do you cut your wood? The book says it will take up to a 22" piece. I just thought with the arched front door it might be a little tricky with that long of a piece. So I cut a bunch from 18-22". Just wanted to know what works good for the front door oslo people. Thanks!

Congrats on the new stove!

I cut my splits all at about 20". I've had a few sneak it at 24" and have been able to load, but that is pushing it!

I don't think you will have any more hard a time loading longer splits in the front vs. the side. Also, someone posted, over the winter, that filling the inside gap with door gasket will greatly reduce the amount of ash spilt when opening those front doors.

Enjoy the stove, I bet your eager to light her up!

Welcome to the blue/black Oslo clan! :) Can't help with front loading as I use side but even using side loading I'm cutting 20" instead of 22" max.

Thanks everyone! I was cutting 22" but then I got to thinkin, I have to split these things! Cut mostly from 18-20"ish pieces. So I should be ok.

Congrats on the new stove purchase. I always loaded from the side when I burned one, so I cant be much help as far as that goes. I will say you bought yourself a hell of a stove though. Enjoy it.

Originally I cut my stuff to 22 inches.

Then I changed up a little and I cut it all to 20 inches.

Currently I am cutting my most recent load all at 18 inches (about 8 cord's worth) Only reason is the 18 inch splits are well, easier to split, and easier to handle for my wife and I.

Plus, if I ever want to sell some wood, or if I get the urge for a different stove, I won't be as likely to be stuck with a lot of +length wood that I can't get rid of.

Thats baby talk.. If I ever HAD to buy a new stove, it'd be another Oslo.

We load our Oslo through the front and cut to 18-20". If you have a log that's just a little too long to go in you can sometimes open the side door a little to gain enough clearance.
