Log load price?

In the Northeast, I think $100/cord is what I've been seeing.

Yup, right around $100 a cord in this area is pretty much the best I've seen as well.

I just had two stumps ground by a tree service. One of the workers was talking about how they can't get anyone to take logs. Saw mills don't want them because of the metal, paper mills aren't buying them. They can't even sell the chips to the paper mills. So I asked how much they'd charge me for a tri-axle load of logs (about 6 cord). The guy looks at me and says, "$700."

Now these guys can't get rid of their logs, but they still want top dollar from me. Hell, I'm paying $150 for a fat cord c/s/d. What's the point in buying logs from them?

I have a private guy who's supposed to be bringing me a small trailer full of black locust logs for $100. Still waiting on that one.

Around here over in NH about 100 dollars a cord, a lot more C,S & D . The thing is there are a few wood to electric plants and they pay top dollar for the chips so a lot of guys go that way for the fast money.

last year it was $1200 for 12 cords of beech logs. real nice straight stuff. Would have gone to chips I was told and there was quite a bit of 20" diameter logs. This year I bought a tandem load of logs for $400+ from a different guy. Next year I have another guy lined up for $1000 for a another 12 cord load.

This area of PA you'll pay around $100 for a cord of hardwood log and $150+ c/s/d. I'm just happy to be a scrounger!

I have wondered the same thing. Most of these tree guys need to pay to get rid of the stuff and they want us to pay them? I wonder how open these are guys are to bargaining, anybody try that?

Right about that. Its amazing how an experienced logger can justimate it. I was told you don't look so much at the logs, but how your trailer is holding the weight. $100 may seem like a lot but boy, all the hard work has been done and you still get to play with your chainsaw.

Up here you'll pay $650 for a delivered 10 cord load mix of beech, maple, and ironwood. The same guy will sell 20 cord for $1200 of the same stuff . . . usually pretty straight, anywhere from 14-24" diameter

I have never bought wood so far, I need to harvest what ever is dying on my land before starting top buy anything. But I was asking around, and a few friends that are log truckers told me they can get me a full 53 feet load ( from 25 to 30 cord) for 50-75 $ / cord. All hard wood. AS long as it's cash money.

I guess that once I will have clear up my land good from all that dying Alpine Larch (if it ever happen) I will be buying 1/2 a load or a full load and process it. Then I'll be good for a while. If I can get decent hard wood @ 50$ a cord, I won't bother cutting my own trees.
