Okies were advertised for 185/ton in the PNW, but when i went to buy them, the bags didnt say Okanagon on them. They were clear bags with no trademarked name. They merely said made in Canada. The lady at the feed store told me that Okanagon was sold to another company and this is the new companies bag for 2010/2011 heating seaason. She said these were really Okanagon brand pellets....just under a new owner in a new bag. Has anyone else seen this? I didnt dare buy 3 tons....but i bought 5 bags to try out. Has anyone else seen this?

No, but I did notice that BTU seems to be living in Az. now.....I thought he was in the NE before??

Maybe you could shoot him a PM & ask.

The manufacturer's website http://viridisenergy.ca/products/okanaganpellets.php doesn't seem to reflect any new packaging or owners.

Sounds like your pellet dealer is dishonest...

My apologies to your pellet dealer :red:

At that price I'd probably get an extra year's stash.

BTU that would be a good idea if they were to toughen up the OKIES bags. I remember when I bought a few bags only to have my fingers poke holes in the bags as I was loading them. The clear bags are what I am referring to. Maybe the newer bags are better.

Darn it.....I should have bought 3 tons then, but i was a bit leery. Anyone in WA State, Dayville Farm in Snohomish has Okanagons on sale for 185/ton. I ended up going up the road and buying Bear Mt for 199/ton

Considering what the rest of the country, especially in the NE, are paying for really good pellets, $199 for Bear Mtn. is a great price for great pellets!....I'm green with envy!

I agree with imacman. $199 is a steal for the bear mountain pellets. And $185 for Okies is nice as well. Either pellet would be a nice addition to a cache! We can get pellets for $199/ton in CT, But they are far less in quality. Us piggies would stuff as much as possible into the stash!

you have to remember he's in the pacific northwest.
thats prolly the everyday price.
still too much for snowy, she's burning the real cheap stuff.

Tell us something we haven't known for a long time....especially in NY!

Regional pricing or wacking, You choose??? IFAIK Maine is pretty high as well. Right know I am paying less for pellets that roll thru Maine than they are. I just don't get it. I am glad I was able to get some decent deals this year. Much better than the $280 they were trying to get last year locally. Save over $40.00/ton!

Up here in Maine the mills and a number of their retailers think you won't really look too hard for a better deal. It doesn't always work that way.

Now if one could actually get some of the local pellet sellers to answer information requests, say the folks at Andy's Agway who advertise on the local TV channels and even have a web presence but evidently don't read their email. These folks were listed as the closest Lauzon product dealer to me, I sent them an email inquiring about pellet availability etc, five days ago haven't heard a peep from them, since then I discovered that the folks at Southern Maine Renewable Fuels are replacing Energex with Cubex. Long story short, I found the last four tons of pellets for my stash. Now I can work on the year 2012 stash.

SmokeyTheBear,

How much were the Cubex in Maine? Just so your fellow Maine friends know. How where SMRF's to deal with?? I have chatted with Bob and He seem's like a nice chap!

Jay,

Cubex is $269/ton at SMRF.

SMRF were easy to deal with, I paid them a visit last December when they were running their 2 bags of Oakies and and 2 bags of Barefoot for $10.00 promotion. I filled out the form on their website on Monday and I got called by Jim yesterday evening. We had a discussion about getting his rig into the yard. I don't really think a 50' or so rig will make the corner or be able to turn around in the yard. He'll have to use his other means of delivery. The poor chap from Hancock Lumber was just able to maneuver in the yard. His truck had a rather hefty fork lift dangling off the back and wasn't close to 50'. The folks from Steep Falls Building Supply had a truck with lift arm that was easier than Hancock Lumber's rig to turn around. The folks from woodpellets.com had to offload at the road and forklift a pallet and pallet jack at a time to the house. Between the turns and such this place isn't easy for a large truck to get in or out of.

BTU will probably never retire....I am trying to figure out how to make pellets work in air conditioning systems....would open up another HUGE market for us, not to mention making the golf carts run...

burn pellets to produce steam to turn compressor to run AC, you can do it man! I would have suggested desiccants and burning pellets to redry them, but humidity is probably not the issue in AZ.

...or slow burn pellets to make producer gas (syngas) via gasification and run a generator to make electricity.

Most RVs have fridges that can run on propane so you may not be as far off as you think...

An RV refrigerator uses ammonia in a gravity/heat system without an electric compressor. It is a simple and efficient system. A home could be air conditioned for a couple of buckets of pellets a day. Ammonia however is avoided today due to it's toxicity. In other words, the government does not trust us to use such a system safely. :-S

From OSHA: "Ammonia is considered a high health hazard because it is corrosive to the skin, eyes, and lungs. Exposure to 300 ppm is immediately dangerous to life and health. Ammonia is also flammable at concentrations of approximately 15% to 28% by volume in air. When mixed with lubricating oils, its flammable concentration range is increased. It can explode if released in an enclosed space with a source of ignition present."

Jay

I was unlucky enough to be inside a Hockey Rink when it sprang a tiny ammonia leak in the refridgeration system and it is very nasty stuff. I can see where OSHA is coming from.
