What would you do with 15k

OK, let's assume that everyone is happy with their heating systems, yeah right, but what would you do if you had $15,000.00 in cash to splurge or spend however you wanted. No investing, or paying off bills! What would you spend it on?? No home improvement or increasing energy efficiency on the homestead or purchasing a splitter or saw! Does not have to be on yourself, but within the family and for purely selfish reasons. I believe that the majority of the hearth forum family donates/gives more than average. I will start:

My wife, best friend, lover, confidant and coolest person in the world is turning 40 shortly and I would buy her a red convertible. Not sure what model, but perhaps a Z-3 or SLK.

Maybe a new Sig, if I could find a deal on the convertible!!
 
Where are you going to buy 4 people convertibles for only 15K? :lol:




Since all the home improvement stuff is out, maybe a new boat to replace the '87? I don't know, the old boat still runs fine and all the stuff I'd do with it is against your rules.

Maybe I'd fly in my old college roommate and have a memorable trip to the strip club? The wife probably wouldn't approve, she'd probably like to visit someplace warm this winter on vacation. I'd probably play it safe with the wife.

Tough call, the first thought is to always invest or pay down the mortgage.

Barring that, would likely be a combination of the three:

1. Use the cash towards a new vehicle, or portion thereof. I tend to buy and hang onto them.
2. Travel
3. House furnishings
 
In truth I'd probably pay a pro to do a bunch of home improvements instead of muddling through myself, but since thats forbidden: I'd take about a 6-8 week leave of absence, buy a couple plane tickets to somewhere in Asia & spend the time travelling around slowly with my wife on a very loose schedule.
 
wow, with 15K I'd tend to improve the house significantly since its my best investment. (need a roof and garage floor, redo master bath) But that's a no-no in this scenario.

I'd probably buy a bigger boat for my wife since she's huge into skiing and tubing (and I want a bigger one too for fishing anyways), so there's 10K and I would probably get that custom made 30-.06 I've dreamed of (theres 2500), and then with the remaining I'd give it to my wife to get some new furniture or clothes, as she so chose. I've got my needs covered and she's always got wants-the rest of the 2500.
 
Swimming Pool, floaty chair, big fridge and a lotta beer. Its been really hot here. Cant think about heat right now, Im thinking about cold.
 
I'd save it for part of a down payment on a nice piece of land. I have an acre now but I want 5+ acres so I can get horses and have firewood on site.
or
I'd probably take a long road trip around the US or head down to the Virgin Islands for a bit.

With the predictions of the economy not getting any better this year or next I would save it for a rainy day.

Without a doubt, I'd get my gal that red 1965 Mustang convertible she's always wanted. She's pretty in pink, but she'd be smokin' hot in red. :)

Last week I would have bought a pool...but now that the temps have moderated somewhat I would put that $$ into a high(er) end home theater system. We probably spend 50% of our leisure time watching movies and I would love to upgrade my audio system and finally get with the times and get a nice high def. TV or projector. But, I think the wife would get the pool!
 
Bum around Ireland, Germany and Italy for a month.
 
I already have pretty much everything I want, and a whole lot more than I need...so I think if you just dumped $15K in my lap under the conditions given, I'd deposit ~$2K each in my nephew's 2 young kids' accounts, I'd give my wife ~$3K to buy the 8-harness floor loom she's got her eye on (to go with the 3 looms she already has), I'd toss another ~$1K to my wife for accessories & yarn & whatever, I'd send my daughter and her husband ~$5K just because I love them and I know they could use it (and would use it carefully), and I'd save the last ~$2K to sink into the ongoing hot-rodding of my 1936 Ford Pickup. I think that about adds up to $15K. Lemme know where to send my mailing address. %-P Rick

That actually happened to me. A long time friend passed away and left me, to my surprise, just about a $15,000 inheritance. My wife and I used the money (plus a little extra) to fund a Caribbean cruise for us, our three children and spouses. We paid for everything, plus gave each of the children and each of their spouses $500 spending money for the vacation. We had an unbelievably great time together. That was 6 years ago, and we still talk about that experience when we all get together. That was a splurge with big dividends.

All that for $15K? Around here that might pay for the fencing or the acreage, but not both.

I'd try to find a nice used Kubota CUT with FEL but they tend to go for more than $15K.
 
I'm so practical that I'm having a hard time playing by these rules :) On top of that- tools pretty much are my entertainment.

Prolly buy a slab roller (sort of an investment) and then take the wife away around Thanksgiving to get away from my inlaws. Maybe go to Hawaii for a couple weeks. We LOVED Hawaii when we went for a conference, and it would be tough to get back there for the money it costs.

Hmm, now you got me re-thinking. It would make a nice little land downpayment starter. Shoot, better make it $25K so I can travel AND start a land fund ;-P We must think alike, I once took a 7-month "roadtrip" around western Canada & US with my (now) wife in an old RV (on uhh, way less than $15K). Saw what would take a lifetime of 2-week trips to see. At the end we sold the RV & made a 10% profit! Lucky 'cause by then we were flat-broke. Sorry, mind/thread drift...
 
I would like a nice used Extended-Cab pickup and a nice older camper that I can take the wife and kids out camping in.

I must say it's hard to think of getting that kind of money and not being responsible with it. The first thought I had with 15k was home improvement or savings.
