For years I have been thinking about buying a new saw; my first (and possibly last) 'new' saw. All others I have bought were used when I got them. Today was that day. I finally saved enough money from selling firewood, after other expenses, to be able to justify buying a new saw.

Here is my collection 290, 026, 026, 117:

The new one, brought home only moments ago!

they didn't have anything salmon colored or a nice deep blue? maybe you could do one up in some nice spray on "mexican chrome" (sorry if thats not PC, but thats how I know spray chrome). So may saws...so little time eh?

Very Nice - but way to clean, get out there and cut some wood!!

Soon enough. Yesterday I was clearing my trails from storm damage, it was warmish 85°, and my last functioning 026 was giving me some grief. That's when I decided I would go shopping today! Tomorrow I will most likely be back out there cutting again.

Looks good, quite a few back up saw going for you!

New Saw, sir Their is nothing else like a NEW Stihl in your possession. My first new one was in 1985, (O28) I could use some hard maple down here. Do you deliver? Enjoy the saw and take care of it and it will take care of you, Ken

Quads good luck with that new stihl, I'm sure you'll break it in real soon.

I do deliver! For free! But sorry, no hard maple, only oak. ;-)

Thanks! I hope it lasts as long as the 026's have.

The new one is the only one that runs! (well, one of the 026's runs funky/half runs yet)

Was drooling over my new saw, ran my hand across the chain, and......cut my fingers open! DOH!

Good luck with your new saw...you deserve it after all the hard work you do day in day out.

Yep, nice new saw. I remember when I bought mine. I cut with it for 4 hours and it cut better with each tank full of gas I put in it! Congrats!

Lookin good quads! Now you can start saving for that Fiskars Super Splitter you've always wanted! ;-)

Thats great Quads!

With all the work you do you deserve your new saw!!

Billy

Thanks everybody! Hoping to get out there today and try it. Running a little behind though, since the cows got out and I had to go find them before I could milk them this morning!

give em hell!& say hi

Congrats!!! My first and only new Stihl was my 029 back in '96.

I am surprised nobody is telling you that you just bought an underpowered overweight saw? I have been happy with my 029 since day one. Keep a nice, sharp full chisel, non-safety chain on it and you should be happy for years.

Boy, that is one thing I don't miss!

Congratulations on the new saw quads. May it serve you well for many, many moons.

I was going to ask why one needed 5 saws.

I inherited a Sears yellow thing ( that I borrowed once) and a Jonsered that I borrowed a couple times and still haven't wanted to see if it starts.
I'll pay to have the 026 fixed and wait for it before I try the Jonsered.

026 is the only saw I bought new.
Would be nice if I never needed another - although if I cut as much as you I'd certainly want a back-up.

What, you bought a 290?! That's a pig of a saw. There is no power and you will actually have to have arm muscles to lift it up and use it!

I bet you'll love it. My 290 is a joy to use and I've never regretted the purchase.

Matt

Ha ha Matt!

I did get a chance to use it today. First impression is it's a fine saw that actually keeps running until I shut it off! Ha! I'll post a little review later.

Run at least 5-7 tanks before review.....It will get 20-30 percent stronger once the rings set.

Quads,

Great photo and like you I have never had the opportunity to break in a new saw as I have only ever had used saws.

Right now I am the owner of a Husky 267 which runs beautifully. The previous owner used it only as a tree trimmer and to a bit of wood for a fireplace. He never heated with wood or did any heavy work with it so I have had the opportunity to give it a workout.

The 026 sitting on my work bench became the victim of a combination of my not knowing to not use fuel with ethanol in it and using fuel that had sat too long. The scoring is visible when you take off the muffler.

I am keeping it around for now until I finally rebuild it or give up on it based on the cost of a rebuild.

I used to have a sachs dolmar as well but it gave up the ghost due in large measure because it was tired when I got it for very cheap.

Someday I would like to try a very large brand-new saw.

Congratulations.
