Talk to the guy of Craigslist, offering 2 cord of red oak. He said "downed and bucked" 18 months ago. Has been split and sitting for the last 13 months. I stopped by his shop. 16-18" spilits, checked ends and many are turning grey, some bark coming off. I gave it the "go". It is being delivered on Thursday, in the same type of truck that my other two cord deliveries were delivered. It always comes up close to two cords.

They are nice uniform spilits and will be easy to stack. Grand total = $350

What do you all think:

1) Good Score for the price?

2) In December, Will it burn: Good, Fair, Poor and hissy?

I will post pics.

Thanks for your comments

Sounds good. It'll burn in December. I couldn't tell you if you'll see any hissing or not. Probably not though. Buy more for next year if you have the room.

$175 / cord for legit seasoned sounds good to me.

Did you bring along your moisture meter? ;-)

Sounds like you did well. It should burn just fine for you. Always nice to hear someone got themselves set up nicely for the next burn season. Personally, at that price, I'd buy all I could afford and build a shed around it. You might not find the same kind of deal next year.

That is a very good price for seasoned oak, you did good.

I think you did well. A lot of folks pay that kind of money and don't get that quality. I'm guessing that you'll be happy.

Not bad at all! In SoVT...a cord of green is going for $180. In CT, a cord of green is $225+.

From my expierence the graying of the ends is after a full year or so setting in the sun so pat yur self on the back, I do not think you will have any sizzlers.

My brother was just quoted what he thought was a 'good deal' from a guy he knows well: $225/cord for 3 cords of oak and maple that was cut/split/piled last fall. I guess that may be a good deal for central Mass, if it's actually low MC wood (not likely with the oak). I cut all my own, 7-8 cords per year, so I never bother pricing it.
So $175 sounds like it would be a pretty good price around here.

It sounds like a good deal to me.

As for the hissing, you very well might get some, but then, every so often we get some hissing from wood that has been split and stacked for 6 years. True, it is usually only one piece, but somehow it seems every so often it happens. If it is just one piece we don't worry about it. If they all hiss, that can certainly be a big problem.

I was getting anxiety attacks from not having my wood yet. Also getting snide looks from my father-in-law who keeps 8-10 cords on hand. He and I did 1-1/2 cord c/s/d to my house in February. Eight hours per man. It was fun, but I don't have the time nor the inclination to do it very much. I think I will always be a "buyer"

WOW!!!! I am so jealous.Basically,I live on the outskirts of Calgary and you would
not believe what people charge for wood around here.$800.00 for a cord of yellow
birch,$450.00 for a FACE cord of apple! The website is ravenfirewood.com for any
of you who want to see what some have to pay for delivered hardwood. It really does
make scrounging a necessity for those who want decent firewood but have not won
the lottery. At one point I was tempted to import a tri-axle from Ontario but there is a
ban on importing firewood into Alberta because of Dutch Elm Disease.

So yeah,in my opinion what you got there is a GREAT DEAL!!!!

Wow okotoks guy. That would discourage most folks from burning wood. Terrible prices.

Can't you guys just go up north and scoop up some of that tar sand and burn that? ;-P

Seriously, I'd stop burning here if wood got to even a third of that price. We have some guy here selling "Gourmet Firewood" for an arm and a leg. He's been in business for a long time, has his own roadside stand and everything. Sells it by the car trunk full and the "fireplace cord"... whatever that is. Of course, this is Saratoga Springs. People sell mugs with a horse's puss on it for $15, and folks line up and buy them like hotcakes.

Here are the pictures. Quantity and quality seem to be right on. Wood is seasoned and good to go right now.

Very interesting. I'd like to add, for the benefit of those of you who may not have had the pleasure of visiting the great state of NY, and may have some false impressions of the state, that Adirondack Park is not served by any of the NYC subway lines.

Oh yeah. Nice pie of wood there!! You seem to have found the only honest firewood seller on earth!

Wondered about that myself for some time . . . thought maybe it was some reference to the Mason Dixon Line or something like that. Yeah, I know . . . foolish Yankee Maine Hick . . . what do I know? :) ;)
