tractor supply in Enfield ct has pellets for 199.50 a ton, will be picking up 2 ton on saturday

Welcome to the forum Mike.

Do you happen to know what brand(s) they have in stock? If more than 1, which are you getting?

Oh, btw, since you're new, the forum members here love to see pics of stove installs....care to share yours with us?

I'm sorry i forgot the brand name, will post brand tomorrow. manager at tractor supply said they are low ash premium pellets he has received good feedback on them, in my dealings with him i have found him to be honest and very down to earth, my stove is not installed yet, it is a 25-PDVC i will post pics as i go through the install, i will be installing this in a bermed house that i purchased last nov i was able to heat the entire house last winter with a propane fireplace using only 10 gals of propane a week so I'm hoping to only use half a bag of pellets per day, i know this sounds crazy but this type of house is extremely energy efficient it also has a passive solar room facing south which helps in heating on sunny days plus the house is designed to never go bellow 50 deg without heat. gotta love mother earth 3 sides of house has banked earth for insulation.

oh i almost forgot thanks for the warm greeting to this site, i think this site is awesome it seems to have very help-full people who are willing to share.

They sell Instantheat and Fireside Canadian made Ultra's
Monday i was there and there wasn't much left, just the 9 ton piled up near the road with $199.99 spray painted on the stack
mike56 did you see more than the 9 on the side stacked up 3 high by 3 wide?
Go for the Ultra's over the Instantheatless i call them, still have a 1/2 ton in my garage from last yr.

well i went down to tsc today and what they have left is instantheat stored outside i think i'm going to cancel my order and see if i can get my deposit back plus they want 40 dollars each ton to deliver, can someone here steer me in the right direction for a good quality pellet that i wont go broke in buying i know delivery charges are high i called a few places in ct and got the same delivery charge but because i am new at this i'm not sure who to go with and what type of pellet will work for me. any help would be appreciated.

CJ's Pellet Depot in Manchester and Enfield has several good brands of pellets. I think the delivery to your town would be $60 for 2 tons, $70 for 3 tons. They have barefoots and okies that both have had excellent reviews on this site. My favorite is the Turman's. They run around $259 a ton, which is much higher than $199, but it's also much better pellets. The other option if you don't have a truck is to get a few people to help you out and make a few trips using several cars. Not ideal, but is an option. Their website says there is an Enfield location, I've only dealt with the Manchester one. I think that would be pretty close to you. I'm sure other people will have suggestions as well.

Burn Time has Juniata for $220, and Cubex for $235. Primo Pellets has a sale on Hamers right now at $224. The Juniata and Hamers are very good pellets, and the Cubex are one of, if not THE best pellets you can get.

The TSC by me has Hardwood Heat, which I think is made by Hamer. I am on the fence; $220 a ton for the Hardwood Heat,( I can pick em up on the way home from work), or $235-250 a ton for Hamers or Okies,Spruce Points, Cubex at BT which is 1 1/2 hour a way (an all day adventure by the time we get trailer hooked up, drive there, get trailer loaded, drive back, unload pellets and ditch trailer again). May get a buddy to go in on some with me and run over and get 5 tons. Gonna cost me $50 -60 in fuel too. If the Hardwood Heat are good pellets then would I be better off getting them local? I really don't want to buy a few bags to test now, too hot out. It will be quicker , little or no fuel costs. Time is a premium for me. The pellets at BT are a known great pellet. I only need 2 tons, my buddy would take 3. Still planning on getting a ton of grass pellets from DJ, and then some bags to test through the year to round out heating needs for the year. I still have a few things to do before I am ready for pellets, but it won't be long!

You probably would not get a good feel for them by burning now. This factor is why I try almost every pellet I see or can get. Just so I have a feel for them. You just never know what is the next seasons deal! Gotta be on top of the game to stay in it. Something I learned a long time ago. The YMMV factor is also player too(Gots to try em before you can buy em)! It's not always possible and I have passed on deals just because I had NO burn experience with them. But using the reviews I have seen here, The Hardwood Heats are supposed to be better than decent going by the majority. Plus if the grass pellets worked good enough for you in the cold? The Hardwood Heats should handle the call. I would get some anyways. Most likely Wood will burn better than the Grass pellets!

Adding the time to travel and the extra fuel cost is real tough to over come. I usually just stick to whats available locally. Unless its a trip that is for another reason I might take a side trip seeing I am already there. Another way is get a few people involved. And split the fuel cost up. How many tons can you haul safely?

Jay,
I could haul 5 tons, 1 ton dually and a car trailer. My bud wants 3 tons, so I will split the fuel costs. It will cost me half a day in time at best , which means something, I'll miss a day at my second job or a vacation day from 1st job. Gotta admit a ton of Okies and a ton of Cubex sounds pretty warm and cozy though. Mix a little grass/coffee pellets in for shoulder and perhaps a spinkling of winter warmth or those hardwood heats as test pellets. Got a couple of weeks to decide. Nice problem to have!

well i got my deposit back from tsc i'm thinking about getting 2 tons of hammers from cj's 245.00 a ton 60.00 delivery, but i found this on craigs list do you think this would be a better deal 2.5 tons of Energex American Pemium Grade Hardwood Pellet Fuel
450.00 and 50.00 for delivery

I assume that's a private party? That's not such a fantastic deal that's it's worth the risk. If there are some bad bags in there, you're out of luck. Burn Time Enterprises in Bristol is selling Energex for $225 a ton. Have you given them a call to see what the delivery would be? It's worth a shot.

With the delivery charge, that works out to $200/ton....a pretty good price for pellets, but the Energex American got poor reviews last winter....pretty ashy, and not great heat.

I'd say go for the Hamer's...MUCH better pellet.

BTW, did you check out the post I made above (#11).....Primo Pellets has Hamers on sale for $224....they look to be about 40 minutes from you(?).

Why do some folks worry about pellets being outside??. If they are properly packaged and wrapped then there is no issue with them. I see TSC has them here AWF for 199 a ton they are stored outdoors but are sealed up great i would have no issue with buying them as long as they are sealed from the plant...

You were better off with the white plastic Fireside Ultra's which are made by Energex and there made in Cananda so there better than the American made ones, Brown plastic is Instantheat.
Last week all i saw was the Ultra's there in Enfield, they dont have many left, pretty much the 9 tons with the $199 painted and another ton in the middle of the yard.

mike56; I'm looking on this page and there is an ad for ctpellet.com that says free summer delivery in CT. Several good choices, maybe give them a call. The ad changes so it might not be on this page when you're looking at it. The website doesn't reflect free delivery, but the ad did, unless I was hallucinating.......

Wood Pellets Connecticut Wood Pellets from $199-$259/Ton Free Summer Delivery Within CT www.ctpellet.com

No, I wasn't hallucinating. I copied this from the ad on hearth.com

Hammer hot ones are where it's at. I honeslty have no interest in even trying anything else at this point. I bured 2.5 tons of them last season.

very Hot, fairly clear, only $10 more a ton ususally.... but i used much less of them at the same setting.

ie, a bag of newengland pellets on setting 2 was empty in about 18 hours
1 bag of hammers took 23 hours to fully burn.

So, while they are more expensive, they actually save you money because they last longer.

I get all of my pellets through BT enterprises in bristol. (just 2 miles from me)
http://btpellet.com/price_list

They are cool in that they let you pay for all up front for full discount (1/2 tons are 60% of ton price), but you can make multiple trips. Works out good for my dakota that i don't think will hold a full ton. I make 2 trips for 1/2 ton each.

They store outside as well, and i've never had a problem. They stay plastic wrapped.

You can also consider renting the home depot truck, etc. It's only $20 an hour, and if you are quick, the $20 is all you will need to pay for your 'delivery' charge.

The Hardwood Heat brand is a Hamer bagged pellet. Just FYI.

thanks to everyone for your input i have decided to go with hamers hot ones from primo pellets 224 a ton 65.00 delivery into my garage will place order tomorrow, i also will be doing a ceramic tile inlay hearth where the stove is going on my cement slab i recently purchased this bermed house last November and really love it for it's energy efficiency, i have lived without a basement for many years so having a cement slab does have it's advantage at least to me, i will post pics as i complete the hearth and the install of my pellet stove, again thanks to everyone.
