LG Granules @ $273/ton
39% ash
6.50% moisture
7928 BTU/lb

versus

Vermont Softwood Pellets @ $245/ton
27% ash
4.8% moisture
8,389 BTU/lb

I used Granules last winter and was pleased but the price and specs (if accurate) on the Vermont brand are tempting.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Also, I've identified BT Enterprise, Woodpellets.com, and CTpellet.com as three companies that deliver throughout Connecticut. Any others come to mind? I live on the South Shore.

Are you sure those are accurate? Most pellets are less than 1% ash, unless I'm confusing this with something else which may be the case, because I often get confused,.....what were we talking about?

Found this online for the LG's

•Heating value: 8,500 BTU/lb on average
•Tree species: Black Spruce and Grey Pine
•Density: 40 lbs/ft3 on average
•Humidity: 4.5% on average
•Ash: Less than 0.5%
•Binding agent: Resin (lignin) normally contained in the raw material

Both of those ash figures need a decimal point in front of them.

You are correct, sir.

And I have seen different content analyses from different web sites for the pellets in question.

I almost put in an order for Okanagan, but the distributor said they wouldn't drive onto a grassy area to drop them--a deal killer unfortunately.

Actually a lot of dealers won't go on grass, simply because there could be a septic system underneath and if you screw with that having too much weight on it,(not the pellets, but the forklift or truck) it can be very very expensive and create one big mess to fix...........trust me on this...

I could see that as a general policy. The homeowner says it's OK, and then there's a problem and they blame the dealer. But I use city water. No well, so septic system, and other than the grass under the pallets being killed, no problem for the past four years. With the Okanagan dealer it wasn't expressed as a concern for what be underground, just that they won't drive onto grass. They would have dropped a pallet onto the grass from the asphalt.

I haven't burned LG in a few years(they just disappeared in my area). But they were a good heat pellet for sure. They burned clean. I burned some Vermont wood pellet Co. last season. Also good heat and really clean burning. I got .275% ash from them.

I will give the LG's the slight edge in heat and the Vermonts the slight edge on least amount of ash content.

I would let the price decide on what brand to purchase. Either pellet would be better than decent for you. Both are in the good stuff class!

I have dealt with both BT Ent. and CTPellet. Each offers very good service! Not sure about deliver for your area. I live much closer and haul my own most of the time!

....based on the price/value...the Vermont is the better choice this season over the LG's.....

I agree with BTU....go with the Vermont pellets.

I'd go with the Okies and carry them to the place you want them. They are worth the effort. (BTU-I will take they cash in the usual place in smaller bills this time. ;) )

Latichever,

Statistics are good - and I don't know where you live but..........

The Vermont Wood Pellet Company, LLC makes a fantastic pellet. There's so little ash that it usually doesn't get pushed up by the burning pellets over the edge of the pot. They kind of just fly away. On my XXV I can see all the ventilation holes forward of the burning pellets usually. The pellets smell like clean sawdust and apples. They vary in color from brown to light brown but the color doesn't seem to affect the smell or the heat. They burn very hot. They have been higher in price than some other pellets, here in the champlain valley, but lower than others.

They provide Vermont jobs. Here that's important. It's a great pellet!

I got a bag of LG's when I had the stove installed and they're pretty good. Last winter I burned mostly Energex and they're pretty good - they're just not fantastic. The VT Wood Pellets are fantastic.

Either way - good burning!

two weeks ago i bought 6 tons of lgs from vermont pellet stoves in colchester, for $230 ton, a week before that they were $220, i missed that price hoping it would go lower.
i dont know where you live, if in the burlington area i would give them a call, they also deliver for $15 ton, dont know how far they deliver. the lgs were the highest priced of three or four differnt brands of pellets they had. this is my third year burning lgs in a quad ae insert, good pellets, great stove ( so far)...
