I could hear it running around called the exterminator he could not get the chimney pipe off he put some sticky sheets in the stove
He figures its either a bat or a bird.He says it will be dead in a day and recommended I get a chimney sweep to clean.Has this ever happened to anyone ps my wife was so scared she had to run to macys.

Yes, I had a bird in my old wood stove about 5 years ago....made quite a racket, but suddenly it stopped one day....found the bird in the base of the pipe on the damper.

Interesting problem your wife has....the bird/bat seemingly helped Macy's make money off of you, plus the cost of the chimney sweep to get it out....expensive critter.

Found a dead bee in the exhaust blower while giving stove and 25' vent complete cleaning yesterday.

I've killed about 6 bats inside of pellet and gas units this yr out in the field.

We have had a bird and a bat in the stove pipe. I have to say they do a great job of cleaning the pipe out. The amount of ash that came out of the clean out door with the bird was crazy for 3 tons of burning.

duck in a coal stove....crispy critter.....ID'd it from the bill

Yea - If I simply drop a cotton ball on the floor my wife will run to Macy's... gets darn expensive after a while...

Some years ago I kept hearing rustling in my free standing wood stove during the summer. Thought it was wind for about 2 weeks until I realized something was in there. Put an old bed sheet over the front of the stove. Quietly opened the doors and moved the sheet towards the back of the fire box. When I felt something I gently wrapped the sheet around it and carried it outside. When I turned it loose it turned out to be a Flicker; a fairly large bird, and he flew off. Didn't think anything could last that long. Maybe it was wind and the bird but he sure beat a hasty retreat. Believe it or not but true story.
