Now that September is almost here who will be the first to light up this season? I know it won't be me!

If another thread has already been started on this please point me in the right direction. :)

I think several already have, (lit up) Several new installs (like mine) burning the "new" off ;)

New installs don't count! It makes sense to do that when you can open the windows. :)

Hey I waited till the AC was off ;)

Ok, I'll admit it, I burned my old Fireview as well. :red: But hey, it can get chilly in my basement even in August.

Good grief. This thread usually dosen't come along till next month.

I think I am determined to just spend the money on electric and hang out as long as I can this year. Of course I have said that every year and still end up lighting off in late September when I see the meter spinning from the space heaters.

It's almost next month and I wanted to be the first. I was actually thinking of you when I was making it. :)

Which Hampton do you own? The H300 is on my list to replace the Intrepid. What type of legs do you have? Standard?

I've been beggin' but the boss won't allow it yet. I've had to get fix with the fire pit.

I've had a fire in the stove at least onece a month since last season ended. In fact, I started a small pine fire last Saturday morning. 'Twas a bit chilly in the house after leaving all the windows open Friday night.

Normally for me it's mid/late Oct. It depends, some years the kids have worn shorts for Halloween other years it was snow suits with freezing rain/snow?? I have a kerosene heater for a chilly day when all you need is a little kickstart in the morning till the sun does it's job.

Two nights in a row already; night before last and the night before that. Like clockwork, there are always a couple cool nights in late August that I have a small fire in the stove just to take the chill off the old bones. This year has been no different.

I don't consider it caving though; I relish the idea! Usually have to force myself to hold back from lighting the stove.

Last week it was raining every day and highs outside were mid 60's. I have to admit I was tempted just because... well, just because. However I didn't do it since I know if I had I'd probably find excuses to burn again and again and...

Anyway, I'm rather hoping to get well into October this year - I seriously doubt I'll make November unless we have unusually warm weather. In any case the thermometer will be the deciding factor (inside temp, not outside). I don't believe in letting the calendar decide these things. Time will tell as I'm sure our tolerance for cooler temperatures is gone and we'll have to acclimate again. Family will find temps below 70 inside to be "too cold" again this fall for a while... then by January the same 70* mark will be "I'm sweating can we open a window" temp...

I'm going to finally clean my chimney today. Does that count for anything? ;-)

Thanks for sharing that - I'm glad I'm not the only one... I was thinking that I should get around my annual cleaning here too before starting burning again.

I'll try to make it to mid-November for actually heating the house, but I'm sure there will be a few ambiance fires before that.

Happy to take one for the team!

Only if you "clean" it with pine!

I have the H200, not sure if it will be big enough but I found it used at a price I couldnt pass up. I have the long (standard) legs which is nice because no heat protection is required on the floor, only ember protection. Really impressed with the construction of the stove.

I havent burned wood in years so its nice to get back into it ;)
