Pennington (Nature's Heat) is advertising weekend "pellet and stove" events at various Sam's Clubs right now so I doubt that this is any fire sale. Pun intended.

Last years restacked pellets, noticed some bags faded slightly.
Sale will not last long, few days possibly.

There is a Pennington factory near here in Monticello, Arkansas. They had a "HUGE" oversupply of oak pellets. They have a joint venture with a oak flooring company. The old Wal Mart building in Monticello has been used to store their production and even they had to put many of them in the parking lot. This may be why Sam's got a good deal. They want to get these out of the way. Just my idea and local observation. I'm sure there are many plants producing Pennington pellets.

Wal-Mart has the most efficient distribution system on the planet. All they have to do is put them on the train headed for the Pennsylvania distribution center and then onto some of their 7,200 tractors and 53,000 trailers hauling regular stock orders to the stores.

wouldn't it be nice to get thru a price thread without BTU telling us how there is no way the price can be so low.
Not hard to image anything more efficient than selling BC pellets in the NE while sitting int AZ to me.

He reminds me of listening to a realtor telling people that home prices are holding steady...

For year's i bought pellets from Sam's for $134 ton, this was 1999 thru maybe 2005, then the oil prices went up.
Forklift driver said the price will be going up soon so getum while they last at Sam's of Manchester Ct.

This is kinda like Squires $219 Okie deal

I said nothing of the kind Mascoma....what I said was the mill at $150 retail in CT isn't making any money if in fact they are bringing it from 1400+ miles away. OR there is some other reason for the low price and I didn't believe this was a company wide price....that is what was said or implied.

With modern communications today, it really doesn't make a hill of beans difference where I sell from and like the box stores we have figured out how to move product long distances effectively, but there is still heavy costs involved...You may not want the mill to make any money and sell for well below cost, but that can only happen for so long before a company goes BK doing that...and no you can't make it up with volume.....just trying to educate people on how this industry really works....

I recall a SNL skit advertisement once that was about a bank that their only business was "making change". You come in with a dollar and want four quarters, we do it, you want 5 nickels, 3 quarters we do it. You want 10 pennies, 8 dimes, and 2 nickels....we do. How do we make money you ask......volume. Very funny. I didn't really get it back then, as I was stupid....and young, but I get it now....I think.

Yea. Pennington that sells about a billion pounds of grass seed a year in Wal Mart stores and Wal Mart itself is gonna call BTU someday for consulting services to figure out what they are doing wrong.

Obviously they are both losing their ass on this deal. Pennington may screw up but Wal Mart ain't losing anything on the deal lately. Been in a buyer's cubicle in Bentonville, Arkansas BTU? It will change your life.

Sorry to see this thread go south, did anyone buy any?

I was going to if they had them at Sam's here. But they don't have any pellets yet so I guess the deal is just going on in PA and NY.

Sams in Elmira ny said they didnt have any yet

Too bad I can`t ever get in on any of this bargain stuff. The best I`ve done in 3 yrs was in June when I had 3 tons of Ligs delivered to me at $259 per. Personally, I was elated. I had been paying $300-315 per from the local lumberyards and the other places haven`t been much better.

You Northern guys won't believe it but the highest we've had to pay for a ton of oak pellets has been around $215./ton.
I think everything is higher in the Northeast!

The Worcester, MA Sam's is $220 a ton for Nature's Heat. Still way cheaper than anything else around though.

Sams in Syracuse NY has no pellets this year. So they say at this time. Local WalMart wants over $6 a bag though ouch!

Going to try the Sams club on rt 30 in PA. sunday hopefully they will still have some left.
Burned some last year they were average to a hair below average.
At 150.00 a ton really cant complain.

I noticed the sams clubs picked for the promotion were in rural areas in PA. the closest one to pittsburgh is about 45 minutes away

"Loss Leader" any one?

Appear's this is only in manchester ct sam's, newington ct isn't following up on this......what i'm told.

Whether or not a particular store has pellets is probably based on what DC (distribution center) the store is served by...

It looks like they have been doing these events in different places for a while.

Sam's Club Concord, NH Pellet Event July 10th
