Feeling the Heat
Oct 8, 2008
450
It was 60* this morning outside and I lit a small fire to test out the new door gasket....I miss burning!

Just got a 30nc, the anticipation is killing me, high 80's next few days

The wait doesn't bother me in the least. However, the cool would feel much better than the hot spell that is beginning today. Probably have to run the air conditioner for a few days again.

We're having a heat index warning for tomorrow - 30C (86F).
My wood for next year is drying beautifully!
I've got 12 cord in the basement already for this year - about 1/3 softwood, 2/3 hardwood.
This will be my first season with only the Econoburn. Hoping I don't have to top up my woodroom in Jan/Feb.
I'm anxious to start burning, but I'm not sick about it. :)
I'm more anxious to see some really cold temps, like -30C (-22F) and see how well I can heat the house. My last boiler couldn't keep up when it was that cold.

I trust your door seal worked well?
Happy burning!

Soon enough. Don't push it. We are high's in the 80's but mid 50's at night. We are in that time of summer that Bob Seger wrote about in "Night Moves", "With autumn closin' in.."

bernie i am sick that i didnt get the 429.00 logsplitter deal but i do have a 12 ton gas splitter. your stove is only a year old and you had to change the door gasket already i am hopeing on getting a least 4yrs out of mine.

I've only had the stove for 1 year but the stove itself is probably closer to 10 years...i picked it up via craigslist. It was in a couples basement and they said they didnt use it much. The new door gasket seals nice, last year i noticed a small gap developing between the gasket and the metal which would allow air to enter and it made the window get really dirty quickly.

Ive yet to use my splitter! I tried it on a piece that was already split but I rented a splitter about 3 weeks before I got lucky with this one....the damn rental alone for a week cost almost $400 w all the taxes and fees tacked on.

Let's not rush it. I was burning last night.........OUTSIDE! Grilled some yellow fin tuna steaks on a nice hardwood fire, then piled on the garbage wood to watch nautures TV. We are in for another heat wave starting today thru Thursday. I don't mind working to heat my house but I have but no choice to pay "the man" to run the central air.

It's funny you should mention this; I often think about this saying! Heard it the other day at work and actually stopped working so that I could hear him say it, and then thought "that's about right now" lol....

I was thinking the same thing! Holy Crap

There will be plenty of time to start fires in the woodstove in the months ahead . . . and there will be a time for some folks (maybe around March or April) when the idea of having to light a fire in the stove will not seem so attractive as it does right now . . . for me I'm still setting fires . . . in the fire ring outdoors and I'm happy to keep doing so for a little while longer.
