Found an ad today on Kijiji selling 7 face cords of oak for $200.00. I went to see the wood and it has been c,s,s for 5 yrs and there are 3 rows approx 12' long x 4' high x 16".
There has been no protection from the weather and the wood is very dark in color and some of it has gone punky.
Give me your thoughts on what I should do?
I was thinking of offering $140.00 for the load........

Update: I offered $150.00 and they did not accept my offer. They are actually going to increase the price to $250.00?

Thanks for all your responses........

Looks like a good buy if its 90% useful. Not everyday you find seasoned oak!

Hey that sounds like about a cord and a half by my calculation. If some of it's punky, you'll have to figure how much and also figure how bad you need wood. You'd be payin' maybe for a good cord?

7 face cord is 2.3 cords. It depends on the punk volume.

Three rows 12x4x16" is 4 1/2 face cords

the original poster is from Canada, he's using the metric system!!

Ok I finished lunch. I am going back outside to split more maple. Your welcome

You fellows must use a different form of math than I do.

12' x 4' x 1.3' and there are 3 of those.

12 x 4 = 48

48 x 1.3 = 62.4

62.4 x 3 = 187.2

187.2 divided by 128 = 1.4625 cord of that oak.

Robert, oak is notorious for getting punk around the outside of the log. Nothing to worry about though as usually there is not that much and the rest is excellent wood. I would say $200 for that much wood is a great deal. I'd definitely buy it if it were needed. It is well seasoned and would give a lot of heat. Save it until the coldest part of winter. Good luck.

Last winter I burned some 2-year oak and some 10-year oak. The older stuff was better, even though it had some outer punkiness.
What is the going rate for green and seasoned in your area? Around here, that wood would easily be pushing $250-300/cord, so would go for over $400 total.
Assuming it is 80-90% sound, $200 would be a steal.
