My brother-in-law's company out here in Western MA charges $165.00 for a cleaning. That would include sweeping the chimney and taking apart and cleaning any of the wood stove pipe, and clean up.

My apologies -- I screwed up the price in this post!!

He charges $125 for a cleaning, not $165!!

My guy came out and did mine for $75 (he also sold / installed the stove / chimney). I can't do it from the bottom and I have a real tall chimney so it's the best $75 a year I spend. I'm all about climbing a ladder and I'm all about getting on the roof, however I'm not real excited about climbing on a ladder on the roof to get to the chimney.

So. Calif., big city. I usually pay in the $150 to $160 range, haven't checked prices this year. Single story house, masonry FP, 12" s/s chimney above the smoke shelf (due to EQ damaage before I bought the house).

I'd do it myself ... if the chimney were a little farther from the edge of the roof. Don't mind working on the roof, don't like the edge.

Peace,
