I just bought a lot of wood for $200. It wasn't split but it was cut into rounds. Some was 18 months old and some was 6 months old. It was all Oak, Maple, Black Birch and Black Locust. I have never handled black locust but that stuff weighs a ton!!

Any way, I have a 5.5' bed on my Nissan Titan and he had a 6.5' bed on his mid size Dodge. We took 7 and 1/2 loads of wood back to my house (4 me, 3 1/2 him). Each full load was a bit above the sides as he was a short distance away.

He guessed is was 3+ cords of wood. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I think youre probably pretty close at 3+. Depending on how its stacked both trucks together were probably close to a cord.

Either way it sounds like a bargain, get the maul warmed up.... ;)

Sounds like a good load, Black Locust and Black birch are great. After the locust is split, it will season in 6 mos. Keep it separate for the coldest nights.

What time did you each leave the station? How fast did each truck travel? Jeez, it sounds like one of those word problems in math class. %-P Split it, stack it, measure it...then you tell us how much wood you just bought. Rick

Thanks guys. I'm really excited to try the black locust. Then guys neighbor had a huge black locust tree fall on his shed and he bucked the whole thing up 6 months ago. He is moving so he needed to sell his wood. I'd guess 50% of the wood was black locust, 20 maple, 10 black birch, 20 oak.

I still can't get over how heavy and dense the black locust was, my whole life I just thought of them as garbage trees, boy was I wrong.

Less than 3 cords is my guess. The Nissan probably was less than 1/3 of a cord per load and the Dodge - maybe - had ~ 1/3. Thats my guess.
