I scored some red oak today, all i seem to get scrounging is big stuff that no one else can take easily. I am one of few in town who can lift these up into truck, one of the local tree services always cut big trunks heavy. i think i should reward them, as i get lots of large stuff and i prefer it. i love free wood

double :)

Looks good, it seems likes it's taking forever to load. Oak is one wood that is not on our property, nice score.

Nice truck, you must be one hell of a man to be able to pick one of those up and throw it in your truck. I am guessing they gotta weigh around #125 -150 each?

actually the lightest one was about 200 and biggest was 400 the big one i had to stand up and tip it into back of truck then lift end and slide into truck. green oak is heavy. i didn't exactly throw them in but i did lift some over the side

Um yeah, all you would see if I loaded those was 1/8thed up noodled down chunks. you gonna split those with a hatchet too? man I feel insignificant now :red:

splitter will work those up nicely. I'll buck to 18" then split em up

Here's a picture of one I bucked up and split last year, no i did not lift those logs until they were bucked and noodled

I dont want to piss you off HOLY $hit you must be one big strong dude! My back hurts just thinking about trying to budge those.

You must have one tough tailgate. The pins on mine barely reach after a few years of the stand up, tip and slide technique.

Thats great your getting the big ones! But do yourself a favor and get a low trailer where you can roll them on. Blowing out you back will turn a strong man to a cringing weakling right now. Even though I not a big guy I thought there was nothing I couldn't do. I used to work for a drilling company and it wasn't nothing for me to load 20 100lb bags cement 30 150lb augers and mis equ in the back of a stake truck in the morning and use it all that day and do it again tomorrow. 12 years ago I met my mach with a 50lb bag of bentonite I picked it up twisted my back and went to my knees. There are times when I can't pick my right leg up because it hurts too much and I have to drag it. Usually just working keeps the mussels around it strong enough to hold everything together but it poped out last thursday reaching in the fridge to grab a gallon on milk. I might be able to split my last load of wood today but I don't know until I get out there as its still a little sore right now.

Mental note . . . if CTBurner ever asks for my lunch money, give it to him right away. ;) :)

Cool truck by the way CTB!

The back you save may be your own!

Geez my intestines just popped out of the hole a little more just contemplating those lifts LOL

I go and collect 2 of the Dixette's guy friends, then make them and their wives/girlfriends/whateva dinner :)

Those are some heavy logs.

How do you fit into the truck????

Last big cabers I got (24"+ diameter elm) I bucked and noodled into quarters before I tried to lift any of them. I'm less concerned about my back than causing a massive hernia. But I have used the flip technique in the past when sawing wasn't an option for some reason. I've also done the "stairs" technique, where you stack smaller logs like stairs and then flip the big stuff up the steps into the bed.

Did you haul it home just like that?

I agree that a small trailer with a gate really helps. I take a dolly and wheel them up the ramp and it makes it way easier. Also I don't mind splitting them by hand before I load them, then I don't have to worry about splitting them later. Especially Oak, it usually splits easy. Good job.
