Dealer came out last year and "cleaned the stove" and also installed a new heat shield. There is abosolutely no way that the stove was service properly if that is true. It took me 45 minutes to chip away the carbon from the burnpot. And don't even start to blame the pellets....they were burning LG's and Lingetics. Not the best, but not the worst. Dealer gave them two different heat shields, one from an XXV and one for an Accentra and told them to try running it with each and see if the creosote goes away.

ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME????

Looking at the window on that stove , its as bad looking as the interior of the stove. The stove owner didnt look inside after the Dealer supposedly cleaned it? Seems to me and from the looks of the interior that you would know the stove was mess before firing it up. You cant even see through that window its so dirty. I wonder how long the stove was in use to build that amount of crap up inside.

I check my Castile insert every day durning the heat season and I clean the fire pot daily, that includes any scraping if need be.

I wouldnt blame the pellets, I would fault the Dealer who cleaned it, or in this case did not clean it, and the owner for not looking to see if it was clean before turning it on.

If the dealer came out last year and cleaned it, it probably shoulda been done this year, too..... and they should turn the feed rate up past 1....

yikes! I'm getting that insert this weekend! I'm hoping that there's an easy way to prevent that from happening to ours. We were told by the dealer that anyone who would be operating the stove should be present since we would be educated as they do the install. Thankfully I don't have to work that day so I can also be there. We plan on having it serviced/major clean up yearly. Is that enough or should we clean out the ash every day? The pellets we were sold, we're told, don't make a lot of ash.

Man that's nasty. Looks like whoever owns that stove hasn't cleaned it once since that dealer (supposedly) did 1 year ago. I'd educate that owner on pellet stove cleaning/maintenance.

Would of liked to see pics after it was cleaned to see if everything came off..

Holy Crap! Did the owner think this was normal?
Looks like that stove needs a couple of cans of oven cleaner to make a
dent in that mess.

I've never seen anything as bad as that. :ahhh:

Unbelievable, looks like it was never cleaned....but even so that looks like a complete train wreck. This is why pellet stoves are not for everyone!!

Haha, you are right! I enjoy cleaning mine as well, my wife thinks I'm crazy but what a difference it makes. A little effort goes a long way. Think of all the effort some people make to buy the right pellets, but a smiple cleaning of the stove makes much more differnce.

I should have. It came out great but I was 2 hrs from home and running late. Took the door outside and soaked it in suds while I cleaned the rest inside. Just like new.

Some people think a pellet stove is a "Set it and forget it" appliance. Well the pictures show a different story.
Doing a proper cleaning does not take that much time.
