I am starting to think that it is just that VZ is using latex exterior enamel on their stoves. :coolsmirk:

Wow. Don't most just have the white streak goin up the side? This is the most white I've seen yet. Maybe they liked the two tone color scheme.

Beauty. Heck, if I was closer, I might offer to trade for my Liberty. %-P Rick

Maybe they should just paint them with high-temp white from the factory?

At 900 °F a moot point

That reminds me of that youtube dude who heats his barrel stove till it's red hot and translucent. Insane!

At least now I know what to look for, to truly know if I'm over-firing my wood stove!!

haha, chemically speaking, what causes the white spots? i.e. what is it in cast iron that turns white when ridiculously overfired

lol, stove is painted! place ur bets. will call guy after done watching chicken cook. betting window is closed & stove aint painted & burner plates on top arent warped, supposedly

Anybody else wondering why the stove is white, but the hottest part of the system - the single-wall flue pipe - is still black? Either it's just the crappy paint on these things or this guy was replacing flue pipe fast as he could melt it. I don't think there is as much severe over-firing going on with these pigs as the photos would lead us to believe.

I was wondering about the crappy paint myself after Brother Bart mentioned it. Seen several pics of these with the white stripe going down the side.

Hopefully I wont have to find out

I have had that same Vogelzang boxwood in my hunting cabin for several years. It is not quite that bad but it's close. There is almost no real way to control it. If you fill it anymore than 1/2 way it will be in a constant state of over-fire. And yes, it makes a real decent night light on cold nights. Given the high end hearth this guy has, I bet it does a good job of heating the basement as well.

I've not seen these stoves first hand, however I suspect the paint has failed and oxidized cast iron remains. The pics aren't high resolution, but the colour and lustre are consistent with an ancient cast outdoor furniture set I repaired and refinished as a shop project way back in high school.
