I am going to purchase a combo face sheild and ear muff. Been using safety glasses and muffs for years but want to go to the face sheild now.

My question is this. Which face sheild do you guys wear or prefer? Mesh or lexon (clear)

I was thinking the mesh for 2 reasons.
1. I am thinking that the lexon may fog up after sweating like a pig while cutting.
2. If the lexon gets scratched, I will have to look through that scratch or replace the sheild.

Any thoughts??? Thanks.

I fully agree with you on the plastic. I picke a couple pair of Baileys screen safety glasses and love them I am the guy that taught pigs how to sweat.

I prefer the mesh.

Even when it gets smashed, one can 'unfold' mesh when plastic would have been destroyed.

Thanks guys. I never noticed those screen safety glasses before. I like those. I seem to get more stuff in my eyes when I'm splitting and stacking then I do when I'm cutting. Think I may get one of each seeing how the price is pretty cheap for both.

I have been thinking about those mesh glasses for a while. Maybe I'll try 'em. Do they do anything to cut down on sun glare. I like my tinted safety glasses, but hate the fogging.

My preference is the mesh face shield on a hard hat with ear plugs.

Simple simple simple with nothing to fog, scratch or get dirty.

Flatbed. The mesh does darken your view some. I think they do much for glare. They take a little getting use to. They are just a little bit trippy.

If you go the mesh visor route (which I use), make sure you rinse it off well after each use. If not, your sweat will quickly rust the mesh.

Hey crs7300 Get me a couple pair also....I will try em and let you know what my opinion is.. Haha

I've got the Husqvarna Helmet with the mesh visor and attached ear protection. It works good for me.

I have to agree that the mesh would not get dusty or dirty as would the lexan, but about a month ago, for some reason my saw (Stihl 36) came flying back at my face, cut through the mesh, hit the visor with the moving chain with enough intensity to tear the helmet off my head and rip it apart. The ear muffs were torn off, the viser was ripped off, even the webbing inside was ripped from it's clips.

The near accident really scared me, especially as I look to see how easily the bar and chain came through the visor. I think now, if I had a chance, I would go with a lexan shield. For what it is worth, I went back trying to see what I did, or hit, but found nothing that would explain what happened. Accidents happen so quickly.

Maybe this is useful

I use the Stihl helmet system. It has a mesh face guard. I like it quite a bit.
