Well, if you add in gas to get there and back, gas/oil for the saw, etc... maybe it's $15.

I wish I had 20 more just like it!

Looks like a real bargain. Congratulations.

So are you ratchet strapping that load to the underside of the bed rails? Seems like the rails could bend very easily on that nice truck.

No, there's some tie offs that I can hook to. Plus that 'nice truck' is my salvage title rebuild wonder. Helps not to be afraid of dinging up something brand new...

With all the beetle kill around here they'll give you permits for $5 a cord for all you want.

is that an F150? doesn't look like it's even sagging from that load at all. do you have something installed to help it sit better (timbrens, or something)???

dingnew!

Nice load of wood. Thanks for posting the pics. I agree with others that the truck is handling it very well.
Some of the bark is loose - are there bugs under it? Do you peel it off before stacking it?
I cut up some pine and fir this year, and what I didn't peel, I got large larvae gnawing under the bark.
We even put in a couple of pieces unknowingly into the wood room, and they are still chewing away! :)

Looks like an F150 to me. Relatively light wood. I just hauled a couple loads of fresh cut red oak about that size in my 3/4 ton Silverado and it was a bit on the droopy side. Rode great though...lke a Cadillac.

Yeah, it's an f150. It has beefier springs in the back... it seems to do ok. Like mayhem said, it's not super heavy wood.

Yes the bark is coming off... no beetles left though, they've moved on already. There are spiders, lots and lots of spiders. What bark doesn't come off in the felling/cutting stage comes off in the bucking/splitting stage.

nice try, buddy, you don't get off that easy! I need more information, lol. what does beefier mean? beefier than other F150s? are you saying that Fords springs are better than another brands? are these aftermarket? C'mon, spill the beans.

I didn't make the improvements... they happened before the truck was mine. Nothing fancy. It has additional leaf springs (supersprings, I think... I'll have to dig up the paper work he gave me when I bought it) to up the hauling capacity.

I wouldn't be such a pain about it, but I need to get something on my truck and have pretty much settled on Timbrens, but I am still looking at options.

I've heard good things about the Timbren setup. I say go for it. I think the Supersprings are similar in that they don't alter the stock handling, they just 'kick in' when it's loaded heavy.

Look up Sumo Springs. Same benfits as timbrens, but without the potential harsher ride. Alot of plow guys use Timbrens and some are converting over to Sumos.

IIRC They don't make sumo's for my truck, i looked that one up a couple of weeks ago.

Being a cheap skate here....would springs out of a 2500 or even 3500 work in your 1500? There should be a ton of those in wrecking yards for cheap. I used to swap them out all the time in the older style "boxy" Dodges.

Not a bad idea, but be careful how much you increase the spring capacity on a half ton truck. You still have a half ton frame, axle, tires and brakes...too much cargo and you're going to get bit, hard.

I loved the timbrens on my last truck. 200$ for my F350 and I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Now I'll have to check the Sumos out. Even with an F350, you run out of weight capacity before filling up with wood.

Uh, is that all you could get on 'er?

My Mazda'll haul that much :)

HA! no way, just kiddin', that right there is a FINE load of farwood!

The newer Ford 1/2 tons are a completely different truck from the 3/4 1nd 1 tons.

Danno77, We told you to hold out for the 3/4 or 1 ton. :cheese:

Wow thats a load for a 150... I have the previous gen 150 (a 99) and with the 6' bed heaped just slightly (and tailgate up) she'd be pretty much at the bumpstops. Though everyone said your truck looks like its handling the weight fine I dont know how that can be determined since you pic doesnt show it. The super crews usually have a crap cargo rating as well (not sure if its one or not) thats one reason when I decided to upgrade to a crew cab that I went to the superduty, I could get the crew cab and still 4000# cargo rating. IMHO the most limiting constraint is the tires, you dont want a blow out driving down the highway with your family for example. If you got the truck cheap, arent worried about overloading it, and dont haul a family with it, and dont run into cops, then I'd say go for it. Then again I never have hauled softwoods, so not sure how much lighter your load is than my head thinks it is..

Flatbed... nice V10 you got there, me too!
