I was wondering the best way to replace if anyone has had to do. and if its safe to operate the stove while waiting on new one. Old one is still in just split from one end to the other..

i'm having the same problem. Ours broke in half a few days ago we are still running the stove but have to put half the broken piece back up everytime we load the stove because it falls. We can order the part but they don't know if can be replaced due to age and their may be other broken parts. We also don't know if we have to take the whole stove apart. This is our main source of heat so not having the stove is not an option. If anyone can help. Half of my baffle is still in place can we take out the other half and still run? Can it be replace without taking the stove apart?

On my mansfield I can remove the baffle without removing anything, Just play with it and you will be able to figure it out. Might want to get some PB Blaster to squirt on screws to loosen them up so you dont break any if dissasembly is in order. I currently am overhauling my mansfield and I sheered 8 gauge stainless steel stock for my baffles as mine were toast. It will probibly last longer than the mild steel from the factory Good luck and dont be afraid to get your hands dirty

I checked the Hearthstone Dealer Login on the website & this
procedure is not listed in the instruction documentation.
I just left a voice mail for Jim Casavant @ Hearthstone &
asked him to e-mail me the Craftsbury baffle replacement procedure.
If he does, I will post it here, as soon as I receive it.

Thank you, I appreciate everyone's help, i got a high tech wood stove as hard as that is to imagine, igrew up around my dad's fisher papa bear all we did was feed it .

I found a manual but it sure doesn't show much. Just a assemble for the whole unit. Not any help. We are below zero here for another week. Don't want to tear up the stove but it would be nice to know if we can take out the half broken part if we don't need it. We use a separate piece on the stove pipe to control the heat and smoke anyway since this piece has been warped for some time. Since we purchased the stove some years ago. If it is an easy slide in and out I'm in but it sure doesn't look like it will fit through the door.Unless it will slip sideways out the front. It is pretty large and heavy. It also looks like it has a bolt but the diagram in the attached document doesn;t show that. I'll look for your post for more info. Thanks!

I may have overlooked it, but I didn't see the "Craftsbury" model mentioned in the manual you posted. Are you sure that's the correct manual?

Finally recieved my baffle for my crapsbury almost took a month to get in. Hearthstone has horrible customer service. But any way had to remove the top of the stove to replace the baffle only two 10mm bolts wasn't to bad to replace.

Were you able to get the baffle directly from Hearthstone, or did you order through a dealer? (I ask because I wasn't aware they had a Customer Service group in Vermont).

I have that stove too. I think I may go ahead and order a spare as we are always bumping it. How much did they charge for that? When you took off the top, did you have to use any stove cement to seal that back up? Or is there a gasket in there? Thanks.

They covered it under warranty, so i can't quote u a price. no cement it has a gasket.
the display model in my showroom has furnace cement holding the air tube plemun together, and gasketing between air riser and baffle assy

doesn't look easy do remove w/o breaking cement seal, or i'd pop it apart and tell ya how to do it..
lets see what jim says

If that lid is on with a gasket I may buy a sooteater and clean from the top down without taking the pipe apart. After running that down I could take the lid off and vac it out.

looks way easier to clean from the top than dismantle baffle, but the op has a cracked baff

Has anyone figured out how to replace the baffle? The guy who cleaned my chimney broke it (he vacuumed from inside the stove) and I just paid $66 for a new baffle. Don't want to call the dealer because he'll charge $150 to come out and do it.

Thanks-I particularly like your cocktail suggestion! I don't seem to have the right size wrench to get the bplts off and I've tried the 12 different ones I have. Any suggestions?

I just thought I might add my experince to the thread.
My baffle on my Hearthstone II became severely warped from excessive heat. I knew I had to take off the 3 panel soapstone top and as careful as I was, I did cause a small chip in the surface (dang it). Anyway, because my baffle was so out of shape, even though I removed the 2 screws (I had to drill them out) holding it up, I could not maneuver it off of the the two hangers on the back wall to get it out the door. I had only two options, to change the shape of the baffle to get it out, or take the cast top off completely. I removed the 8 screws and the temp coil setscrew, and the top lifted off easily, no gasket. I could then easily pull the baffle out of the top, replaced it, and am now toasty warm and sipping a G&T as I type this!

Here are the directions I got from Hearthstone:

Technical Data Sheet
Part #3120-390
Craftsbury Model 8390 Ceramic Baffle Replacement
Publish Date: 4/7/09 INCLUDED IN KIT:
1. Locate the two nuts on the left and right side of the top casting. These nuts can be removed with a #10 wrench or socket (see photo).
TOOLS REQUIRED: 3120-390 #10 Metric Wrench or Socket PROCEDURE:
2. Once the nuts have been removed, the top can be lifted straight up and off the stove body.
3. As you look into the stove, you will see the baffle and the front baffle support. Remove the bolts that retain the front baffle support. This will allow you to remove the original ceramic baffle.
4. Place the new baffle in the top of the firebox and secure it by returning the support into its original position and turning the bolts back into place. Snug with the 10 mm wrench or socket. It will not be necessary to replace the cement seam around the outer edge of the baffle.
5. Fit the top casting back onto the stove body and secure it by turning and tightening the two nuts previously removed.

oh man, why not just break the baffle inside the firebox?
when they are that warped a hammer makes quik work, if you have to, a sawzall is WAY easier that removing top stones.
