Hi all...Well in my quest to find a woodstove Ive come across a 2year old Blaze King Ultra Princess model pej1006 asking price $800. Ive read some reviews on it and as with all the stove reviews they are mixed some yay some nay.My concern is that it has a cat.combuster and from what Ive read about cats they seem to need to be replaced (the catalytic combuster) every so often and they are not cheap and a pain to replace ?? .So if anyone has any input as to the yays or nays of this stove please let me know. Thank You Mario..

Don't let the CAT turn you off. If you burn dry wood(around 20% moisture content) you won't have issues with the CAT. It will also allow you to burn cleaner at a lower temperature. Depending how the previous owner burned it replacing it may be required. Once you start with a good one and burn it right you'll be good for years. I'm sure some of the Blaze King owners will chime in with the good info. about these stoves. A search will also turn up a bunch of info.

Sounds like a great deal, assuming the stove wasn't abused. Whatever you spent on the cat you will likely make up in saved wood by burning more efficiently.

Great deal, if it's in decent condition, even if you have to replace the cat straightaway.

That is the deal I have been watching for, but not found, so I say buy it. Of course, that is assuming it is in good condition. Make the assumption that you will have to put in a new cat at a little over $200. You may luck out and not have to though, as it may be in good shape. Unless that stove has been abused and has warped metal, there is very little to go wrong with it that can't be fixed.

While there will always be debate about steel, cats and pedestals, the BK is an operator's dream. Long burn times, easy control with the thermostat, burns both high and low well with DRY wood. My stove was slightly used as well and came caked with creosote from someone who said it didn't put out enough heat. My fuel is far from perfect picture quality firewood, but it is dry and quickly took care of the creosote in the stove and I have had no issues since. The BK both puts out the big heat when you need it as well as a little heat this time of year. $800 if in good shape is a no-brainer.

That's my dream stove, well except it is pretty ugly. If you can stand the looks of it then just about everything about that stove is superior to anything else on the market. The price is right too. If you like the looks then you have stumbled into the best stove you can buy.

If you don't want it I am an hour and a half away and would love to burn in it. In the basement.

Have you seen the cost of cremations these days? :coolsmirk:

Replacing the cat and gasket are simple. The protection grill just tilts out, take a flat blade/screw driver and place corner of the cat and pry out - very little force needed. Once the cat is out clean any debris from the housing, vacuum or tap out any build up in it. Wrap a new gasket around it and hold it in place with masking tape. Slide it back into place. There will be a small gap at the top and on the sides. The gasket will expand when heated with the first fire and seal up.

If the past owner burned a lot of green/wet wood the cat could and probably will be warped (Yep I learned). Which will explain the not enough heat.

Thanks to all. Im going with the Regency F2400 but the deal on the BK is still available if anyone is interested and can make it to the area of Petersburg Va to check it out .PM me and Ill put you in contact with Chimney Sweep who can give more details on stove .He sold the stove New to the person thats selling it 2 years ago .He is also the one thats selling me the New Regency and a liner....He is getting busy now so only serious inqiures please.

Brother Bart will soon have his reserved plot in the local cemetery available to purchase, once he closes the deal on his new crematorium.

Man, your killing me, best stove made, at a super good price and letting it go. Oh well, let us know how you get along with the Regency.

BB, are you gonna get that stove?

If so I hope it works out for ya. :)

Probably not. Looks like a three hour drive down there then three back in the gas eating truck just to look at it. Too much time and money to spend with the possibility of coming back empty.

Daleeper.I hear you bro. Its just that I dont know much about how the stove was used and why after 2 years the owner is getting a new stove and getting rid of the BK..Sweep says the guy dont know how to run it and keeps messing with it,could be wet wood etc,but for the deal Im getting on the liner & stove with installation etc plus the 30% tax credit... I would only wind up saving $200 with the used stove after all is said & done..Rather get the new stove with warrenty etc....Maybe Ill kick myself afterwards but the regency doesnt seem bad online with owners,, only marked up high for extras (which Im NOT getting) but like I said I have checked around and I think Im getting a good overall deal...BTW ...Anyone want a good Free large older stove come get it by 10.4 or Im taking it to junk metal recycler and get $75 for it... Mario

If anyone is interested I have 5 Blaze Kings. 1 used for about 2 years and 4 brand new in the box. They all have black doors. I am located just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. The used one is in great shape. 1400 for the used one and 2400 for the new ones. 440-785-8721. These are left over stock from a store that went out of business.

Well I see you went with the Regency . . . a little late to comment, but I will say while the Regency may not offer the advantage of a long burn time or the ability to go low and slow like the BK (thanks to the cat) it does have one advantage -- it certainly looks better than those BKs . . . I love the reports of the BK, but cannot get over how ugly they look. :) ;) Good luck with the Regency.
