A guy I work with asked me to split some logs that he cut from a tree he fell last week. In exchange I got 8 more ash trees that are dead standing. They just need cut down and then bucked and split....Most are not very big, 3 of them are only about 10" diameter, the others are all pretty big. I already got his stuff split, took only about 30 minutes, and already got 5 of the trees down, bucked, and piled ready to split....
I love free wood, especially ash.

I would have him help. Your doing him a favor. I had a coworker that wanted to do something like that but it was like 8 cords of logs for 2 trees down a big hill that was going to fall on his garage. I was there 3 minutes and ready to leave. The deal was we will split the rounds and I take half and he takes half. Its not worth anything until its split AND seasoned.

I have come to the same conclusion, there is so much free wood out there that the only value to firewood is the energy used to split it, saw a house for sale with a big pile of maple way out back and when i inquired about removing it for them for aesthetic reasons they said its great firewood and wanted 100 bucks for it, for 100 bucks I said I wanted it delivered, still there 3 months later.

He is helping. All I have to do is fell the trees, buck and split. He has helped the whole time. These ash trees are dead standing and there is no limbing as they have been dead for about 2 years. No branches, nothing....They fall and shatter. He is helping me cut and split. Then he has a loader on his tractor that he pushes all the logs in a pile so I don't have to move by hand. And he cleans up all the bark after I leave. It is working out real good so far. They are dead enough I can burn them this year. I will probably mix it in with all my seasoned oak that I have ready for this year anyway. I have NEVER paid for firewood yet.

Another friend of mine just had his property logged so we have about 40 White Oak treetops to cut on. We have done 2 tops so far and there was enough wood for 4 1ton truck loads WAY FULL..and we are just getting started. We estimate there is enough there for both of us there for at least 3 years.

Cool Cstrail

Ya gotta love that!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I got more wood than i planned on out of this deal....which is great. Here is a pic of load #6, and there are 2 more over there at least.
