My Quadrafire 7100FP is about to go into its second year of use. I removed the ceramic blanket and fiberboard baffle for inspection and to allow inspection of the chimney, before the heating season arrives. The tubes and ceramic blanket appear to be in great shape, but the baffle board is broken from front to rear, about center of the board. Can the existing baffle continue to be used if repaired with refactory cement, or should it be replaced in its entirety ? If replacement is required, can I purchase and cut to size a new piece of 1/2 board, or do I have to order from Quadra-Fire ? As a newcomer to the wood burning scene, I have garnered a wealth of information from this board in the past year, and any assistance and information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Can you define "broken?"

Is it actually broke in 2 pieces, or just a hairline crack. My North Star (same basic unit as your 7100) has a hairline crack, sounds same as your, front to back in the middle, I read on hear from an older post and was told from the dealer that a small hairline crack is normal and nothing to be concerned with. It cracked like that during the first few months of use. I'm now going on my 3rd season with the unit, it never cracked any furthur. I'm just careful when I clean the unit because I'm always paranoid it's gonna break in to, but it doesn't.

If your's is actually broke in 2, it probably should be replaced. YOu could still use it, just fit them tightly together. If it's more than just 2 pieces or it doesn't fit tightly and cover the whole area it's supposed to cover, then you need to replace it.
If you need to replace it, all it is is micore. If you have 1/2" micore you can cut to size and fit. The part from H&H is somewhat pricy IIRC, like $60-80 or something.

Blazer; It's actually broken into two pieces. Looked as if it were only cracked, but as soon as I removed the ceramic blanket, I could tell that it is broken completely through.

Well, the last post to this thread was a month ago, so I don't know of how much use this will be. I have a 7100FP entering its third burn season. The baffle cracked into two pieces in the middle of season one. I glued it with refractory cement and continued to use it. Mid season two it broke into three pieces. I glued it again. At the end of season three, it was back to three pieces.

I broke down and bought a new one from H&H, and was pleased to see that the material is different. I've had several burns this month, and so far no problems. We'll see how it goes.

ok I was going to post this same question, I have already had my baffle replaced once under warranty. This year, the 3rd winter we have used the 7100, we bought it in june of 08, the baffle that was replaced & burned all last winter cracked & fell apart in 3 places. My question is can I find some other kind of board to replace it with??
Other than this PIA baffle breaking every year the 7100 is awesome.

Any ideas would be great.

I bought my replacement at www.blackswanhome.com. It was very reasonable compared to other places I looked (ballpark of $50 I think). The material looks quite different. The orginal is white with a smooth texture. The replacement is gray with a textured finish. Of course I have no idea what that means, or if the new one is better. I'm just hoping that Hearth got tired of replacing them under warranty and upgraded the board.

Hi folks. Here's an update... mid-February, burning every day of the winter, and the baffle board has not cracked. So far so good.
