akron,oh
can anyone tell me what the best castible refractory to use for casting a nozzle and a lower chamber. I used nock crete last year and it only held up for one season. This is a home made gasser and it worked great. This refractory was rated for 2700, lots of cracks and lots of erosion around the nozzle area.

When you get a chance, tell us about your furnace/boiler that you made. We enjoy pictures.

Welcome to the boiler room.

Froling uses a cast iron plate atop their refractory nozzle... it takes the brunt of the erosion caused by the abrasive particles that normally speed past the refractory... it is also easily replaceable.

cheers

Well, I know nothing about refractory either, but I know the one piece GW combustion chamber MAY make this season. I think the Seton is cast multi-part, which I bet holds up better. But then, it looks like thay left out at least one of the steel straps that are supposed to support the refractory on my unit, so who knows.

Let us know what you find out.

Firebrick Engineers in Milwaukee Wis sells all sorts of refractory supplies. They also have a kiln & can fire the part. You could possibly send them the mold & have them cast a bunch for you, Randy
