I have a pre-fab fp that has a grate that is strapped in on both rear legs. The strap is over a knob on the rear grate but unless you are able to turn the grate 45 degrees, you can't get it off. Obviously I am not seeing something. What is it?

Got a pic? was it strapped in for shipping perhaps ??

I'll try to send a pic. I suspect the grate is as old as the house which is 24 years. We bought the house recently and the the grate is broken and needs replaced but I can't get it out. I thought the knobs on the rear legs would twist but they don't. Your idea that they may have been put there for shipping is a good thought. The straps go from the grate to under the rear panel in the back of the firebox. I'll see if I can't get a good photo and post it tomorrow.
