It's not that cold, but it's cool and rainy and I have some laundry that needs to dry. I wouldn't have cranked the furnace in years past, but a few splits in the stove-Nice!!! Love the super cedars. What a time saver. When I get paid I'm ordering a box. The boy already re-claimed the overstuffed chair in front of the stove.
Now lets see how the spring kittens handle the fall stove.

Yep, me too. First fire was last night to take the chill out of the house. Second fire is tonight to take the cold chill out of me and Mrs. The beginning of the season sure is great.

I'm out too! Yesterday evening it was cold and damp out which was the perfect excuse to start a fire. Free Super Cedar sample worked great. Looks like overnight lows could be in the 30's this coming weekend. May be firing up again soon.

Cool and rainy here today. Never broke 60F, so still a little too warm for a fire. But it looks like our heatwave is over for a week at the very least. Won't be long until the first fire...followed by cursing because you got the house too hot. Ah, shoulder season.

Ain't doing it dang it. This year I WILL make it into October before I become a slave to these metal boxes for a while. Lotta rain but not cold yet. After years of late September being light off time.

Enjoy folks. I'll catch up later. Cleaned the pipes yesterday and did a little stove maintenance. I know it is coming.

There is no point in having a wood stove and a pile of wood if your gonna accept being COLD. ;-)

ENJOY!

Would have been nice to have shared a few pictures of your nice stone heating device enjoy!!!!

Betcha that becomes his favorite chair :)

No burning soon for me... 60's at night, 70-80 during the day..I'll take it.

Besides, we have to finish the new stove install !

Out here as well! I had my first small fire Saturday night another Sunday night and one after work tonight to get the lower level back to 70. I was hoping to make it to October before doing it. BUT I agree with what North of 60 said above, with a pile of wood waiting to be burned I'll be darned if I'm even chilly!

Crazy ass weather here. We have been in a chill all summer long and then for the past few days unseasonably warm. It was 79 on Saturday and 75 today. Muggy and humid, but warm. Looks like this week is going to continue this way through next weekend, so no problem making it until October without firing up the stove this year. Instead I am going hiking and canoeing next weekend.

We were in the 90's Saturday, and I planned to make it until October, but then it got damp and chilly, and

I agreed with this sentiment. :)

I'm still in if you don't count break in fires?? Saturday was 84 Sunday was 60 and it's been chilly not cold Mon. The house however stayed above 70 and we made chicken soup Sun, just the heat from the cooking stove brought the house up to 74. I'm gonna have to wait a bit longer.

Enjoy Kathleen,

Charlie

Don't think I was the first, but had my first fire a few days ago when it dipped down around 34 degs.
Had #7 last night, but I think I'll not have one tonight. Yes, I will stop counting the # of fires.......soon.

I wanted to light a fire so bad Sunday night. It was in the 50's and going to be in the 40's, it just felt right to have a fire. But it was still pretty warm in the house and I knew A/C was going to kick on the next day or so, so I decided not to waste the wood and A/C. Looking at the long-term forecast being higher, the wife and I having plans to go away for the next 3 weekends in a row, I don't think we'll burn any fires until the end of October.

I was trying to hold off till Oct 1, but had to light both stoves last night. Game on

Frost at night all last week on top of wet and cold single digit celsius temps all last week had us warming up the stove and the fireplace.

Then Sunday it swung to 26 celsius and is supposed to be over 20 much of this week. Gotta love fall. We are hoping to go deep into the fall without having to run power through the electric elements in the furnace.

Been burning for a couple weeks. It's 23* right now. I think yesterday it got up to 45*. Winter is coming fast, that's for sure!

...the smell of fall lingers, the nip of coolness in the night air, the thrill of the first fire, the beginning of the slow march to the place of drudgery :)

I ain't in no hurry.

The Oak tree is dropping leaves like crazy, but it's upper 70's and 98% humidity. It'll be a few weeks yet.

Still haven't burned in either fireplace yet. Should make it into Oct. easily. This weekends nighttime temps will be in the 30's. Hopefully I can wing it for a few more weeks. Everyone else, enjoy your first fire.

Got wood?

Then heat up the place whenever you're cold without feeling the least bit guilty. To me it's not really a contest of who strikes up the first or last fire . . . it's all about staying warm . . . and safe.

We had a few fires earlier in September due to the unseanably cool weather, however, it's 73 outside today with overnight lows in the low 40's. Gotta love the fall- the best time of the year!!
