Hi,

We are thinking about taking advantage of the federal tax credit to upgrade our stove. We have an old st. croix pepin that has been very good to us. It is 10 to 11 years old. Is it foolish to think about upgrading when we haven't encountered any major issues? What is a typical lifespan of a pellet stove? Our pepin definately is showing wear, but keeps on burnin.

thanks for the advice!

I'd say forever (if you do maintenance and are willing and able to make mechanical replacements/upgrades. New or old, the physics are the same, rapid oxidation of a combustible fuel source.

New units have more conveniences but that's about it.

There is really nothing to wear out except burn pots and agitators. Fan bearings die but are replacable and unpgradeable and proper voltage spike supression will allow the solid state components to last basically forever.
