I am cleaning and replacing the gaskets on my 25-PDVC/55SHP10 and have a question I hope someone can answer. I took the combustion blower out to clean. I removed the blower motor leaving the impeller attached. After having everything cleaned and ready to go back in to the stove I noticed that there is no type of gasket or seal around the motor shaft where it goes through the round mounting plate to the impeller. Is there one? Everything else has a gasket or seal on the blower so I can not understand why this does not. What keeps smoke from going through the hole? I did not notice any thing that looked like a seal on my work bench where I cleaned the parts. I have looked at parts diagrams but nothing shows that amount of detail. I would hate to put everything back together with out knowing. Thanks for any help you may have to offer.

Frank, I'm guessing that you mean the round sheet metal plate that the motor attaches to that is about 8" in Dia., with 6(?) holes?

If that's what you're describing, then no, there is no seal, and no need for one.

As the motor turns the "impeller" (fan), it is creating a negative pressure. The vacuum will try to pull air from the outside through the tiny gap you're talking about, eliminating any possibility of smoke escaping there.

If I'm way off here, then I'd need to see a pic of what you're talking about.

Is this it?

The motor would have come with a gasket. Either it got vacuumed up or it was "missing" The Englander gasket usually falls apart into 6 pieces right away. You can install it with no gasket but it will make one heck of racket with all the humming and the rattling and the vrub vrub vrubbing. Call Englander and get a gasket. They are cheap. Stop by your local stove shop and ask for a combustion motor gasket. Enviro will fit but is way expensive at $25. Lennox will fit $9, breckwell will fit $7, Quad will fit $14, Harman doesn't use one.

imacman,
That is exactly what I am talking about. I did not think I saw anything fall out off the shaft but I just wanted to make sure. I did not want to go through the whole cleaning process only to have smoke come pouring out and then have to hear the wife say "should have left it alone!". Now I can start putting the stove back together. Thanks for your reply.
