Hi,

I switched over from a wood stove insert to a pellet stove insert this year. I have a Quad Classic Bay 1200 installed and ready to go. I just installed a wireless thermostat and tested it. My question is that it seems to take about 17 minutes after start up until the blower turns on to kick heat out into the room. On thermostat control, this would seem like a waste to use 17 minutes worth of pellets before the heat is kicked on for every time the thermostat cycled. Am i missing something here? I'm considering putting a resistor parallel to the thermocouple to lower the turn on time.

Thanks!

Seems about right. Mine takes about 15 to 17 mins. I believe it is all based on heat and the #1 snap disc kicking in. The stove has to warm up before it will trigger the convection fan.

You get a bump on the other side, too. The convection fan probably runs for a while after pellets stop feeding and the fire goes out. Mine certainly does.

Can't really member on mine, I run it on med heat and med fan all the time. 15 minutes sounds right, about 25 min after fire out. Even my oil fired furnace runs 10 min or so before the fan comes on. My third year with my stove, set the thermostat, just power it up and let it go. There is a lot of metal to heat up, any sooner and the fan would turn off, then on again.

Seems to me that you are missing something. We are in the shoulder season and you don't need the stove to run very often. !5 to 17 minutes from start up on a cold stove is normal. Once we get into the real heating season, the stat will be calling for heat much more often and then the time between request for heat and fan start up will be much less as the stove will already be hot or at least quite warm. During the mid December to mid March time frame, my stove runs pretty much all of the time except on the unusually warm winter days when the sun has a chance to heat up the house and when I shut it down for cleaning.

I agree. Most (all?) pellet stoves allow the convection fan to run for a while (it varies with each different stove) after the pellets are stopped, so you're still reclaiming heat with no "waste" of pellets.....pretty much even-steven in my book.

I am trying to wear out my igniter, in cold season it cycles 15 to 20 times a day. Just wanted to know how long it will last.

Ok, thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if I had an out of tolerance thermocouple or not. Good point on the fan running on the tail end of the cycle. I'll wait for the cold weather to set and and see what its doing before getting too concerned.

No frost yet, I'm close to being ready likely I'll be spending quality time with the stove early next week to finish getting it ready.

Hope the frost stays away for a bit as I still have squash setting.

I knew there was something familiar about this topic but was too lazy to do a search.

You take care and stay warm.
