We did winch some up earlier, I have to clear some down limbs behind the rhino then I can pull them up. I have a good 15-20 more rounds that will be winched or pulled up.

Do you ever get tired of that inner monologue- "Why do I cut downhill?", or "Why don't I just cut the ones uphill?"- or- "What was I thinking when I pulled the trigger, that's 600lbs. to pull out, over 2 miles?" I think the last one really makes me curse myself the most. (BTW- Backwoods Savage posted my stacks, tell me how far behind I am, and to keep cutting!) Thanks, JB :cheese:

Those rounds look pretty wet zap...was that from rain...or where they just really wet when you gut them?

I cut a few small poplar's in July. I saved most of the wood. A lot of it is already dry. Granted, it's only about 3", but it dried really fast compaired to some hardwood of the same size.

Holy cow! that's has to be some serious terrain if your 4wheeler can't get to it.

Beetle-Kill we have the same amount of wood, you can stop. Skier76 the rounds are wet just from the rain this Sept.

Hey Zap, have you ever thought about making a sled or trailer for this application? I don't know how often you get into this situation, but if it was a frequent event, I think I would make a low slung trailer for sending down the hill, load up and winch it to the top. Maybe your woods is too populated to make that work, just throwing it at ya.

I find that I am always building something to make the hard parts - easier.

Good idea Jags, I'll have to come up with something.

Crappy drawing:

Note: I would keep it as low and wide as reasonable for stability. Keep the wheels more towards the back than a normal trailer would have. That will help in eliminating tip overs.

I'm getting a bit spoiled with the EAB Ash bonanza. I just stack the nicest poplar in place and consider hauling or giving away once it's far drier and lighter.

Gosh Zap, I would not go to that much work for popple.

One of the big reasons Sav is I have some maple down below the popple I want out of there.

we have a lot of popple up here. It sure is heavy when it's wet & dries to almost nothing. I am going to burn some this year. One thing for sure, it will rot fast ! Does split easy though.
