Square ground chain is supposed to cut faster and use less raker gap usually .020. But it uses different files to sharpen it and a grinder to sharpen it costs $2000+ I don't remember how hard it is to sharpen it by hand compared to std ground chain.

+1 for Billy. Unless you know how to sharpen it, the square ground chisel is probably not for you. Stay with a round ground chisel chain. For firewood cutters like myself, round ground chisel is good.

You can buy the square ground if you want to see how it works ,I have. But as soon as I sharpen it with my round file its now a round ground. Square is also very hard to free hand sharpen. Up to you I like to see what differences are first hand.

I have a cheapo bench-top sharpener, does that make it any easier?

If its a harbor freight throw it away. I bought one what a waste of money. Bench top grinders are almost always set up for round ground. Like said above $2000 for a square grinder.

Production chain stick with round ground or filed....Keep it simple unless there is money in racing your saw!

I asked my local shop owner and he said they are best left to the pro lumberjack competitions where every second counts.
