I think it's about time to burn for me.

gonna be chilly tonight and tomorrow night. Probably will just get a fire going in the early evening and then load it once for an overnight burn. I'm kinda excited to get it going again, but my wood stacks are looking so nice, I hate to start messing them up, lol.

That won't take much heat but it will be appreciated. It's about time you had a nice fire anyway Danno.

That's the only nice thing about having a stove that is wayyyy to small to heat an entire house. I can still crank it up as hot as I want and in the shoulder season it will heat the whole place just right. Once it really gets cold then it becomes a supplemental heat source to the gas furnace.

Got my stove up and running about 2 weeks ago. Mostly just cool nights, but this a.m. was 26*, so, morning fire!
I'm trying to just use the pine and maple from the property, and save the oak for the really cold days, but I put in some oak chunks on this one.

I had a fire in my zero clearance fireplace last night it felt great. I will not light the insert until it gets steady colder, and it will be here soon enough.

I call this time of year the "shoulder" season also a great time to get rid of all the "ugly " splits . WE all have are reason to get started too soon,"get the "chill out etc. whateva it 's all good for me.

I fired up the best Fridays 5 Women in the house for the weekend. Never ran out dish washer, washer showers and baths...Priceless

Words of wisdom Dave, but why add some oak chunks to this? Or are they odd shaped so you just need to get them burned.

Thats wild. I fired up my Napoleon last night for the same reason without reading this thread. Those temperatures are the same for Northern California.

I tossed in a small load of pine to burn off the summer dust smell. Cold and damp here too!

I am holding off for a little while yet.

We've had some lows in the mid-40ies here.
Coolest the house has been in the A.M. so far is 67.
Every year I try to make it to Halloween.
As long as it's sunny during the day the heat gain brings the house temp back up.
Three or four cloudy days and it's time for fire, oil or a lot of cooking.

struggled to get it started last night. Was burning the wood slated for late winter/early spring. I think it will be fine when the time comes around. Got the hickory stuck in the middle for harsh winter, and 24/7 burning so that I don't have to try to start the stuff..

I've got some more semi-seasoned to pile on over on the stack and then I have a Rack by my shed that has a cord of nicely seasoned wood that I need to move over with this years supply. This will be what I start with. Then it's back to filling up the cord rack by the shed with the wood for the shed's woodstove (still in several pieces for rebuild) Then I can get started on splitting 2011-2012's wood.

I wish this years wood was better seasoned. It's not the worst, but it's not the best. I hated seeing all the smoke coming out the chimney...

Fired up the Lopi Liberty last night, once I established some good coals I threw in a nice piece of Cherry and a UGLY piece of Beech(at about 8:30) woke up this morning and the temp was 70.

I like this time of year, you do not need much wood to heat the house.

Ditto here...hate that smell but gotta do it.

Just started the first fire here. Just a small one. Used some old saw mill slab pieces left over from last year. It's gonna get down around 42 later tonight.
