This is my third year with the mt vernon ae. Why is it that the first burn of the season has that nasty paint smell?

There shouldnt be any smell coming from your stove, did you coat the inside with anything at the end of last season? I spray the interior of mine with Pam cooking spray, and wipe it all down at end of season but in the fall when I fire it up there is no smell at all .

You describe it as a paint smell, that just might be one of your motors giving off an odor if it doesnt smell like smoke.

Check the wiring going to your exhaust fan. Its possible that it has been dislodged during cleaning and is resting on hot surfaces.

How about some dust? Like the smell when you first run your hot water baseboard in the Fall? Happened again this year with our stove.

I notice that smell in my garage.
kinda contribute it to all the wood sawdust and paint overspray etc that settles on the heat exchanger.

You've got something going wrong... I don't smell my stove and I've only started my second burn year. Of course, the warnings I got about how I should burn it off with all the doors and windows open last year (new install) also were somewhat overboard, so maybe I'm just lucky.
