I am sure a few will chime in and comment about them. IMHO I didn't like them much. Dirty and not much heat from them. OK in the shoulders but I would want something hotter and cleaner for the cold! From what I gather its hit or miss with the batches out there. The newer batches maybe better.

Here's the old batch bags.

The 15 bags I burned last year where among the best pellets I have burned. Very clean burning, plenty of heat, and very little fines. I liked them so much that I bought two tons this year.

We'll see

One thing for sure, they DO stand behind their product, and they will in fact refund any bag or bags, or tons that don't perform.

Burned 2 ton 2 years ago, my first year. Seemed fine to me. Price seems kinda high for what I've seen and heard this year, though.

I also burned 2 tons 2yrs ago. I got great heat, but couldn't handle the dust and fines. That may be because I bought them from Sam's. $269 seems really high. I got them for $244/ton when there was no supply huge demand.

My local Wal*Mart has them for $5.00/bag now, wow.

So why not get a few bags and try them?

below average pellet .for 269.00 you should be able to buy a premium pellet.

I bought 2 tons last year, very average pellet at best. I got them for $200 a ton, only reason I bought them. If you have a multi fuel and can get em cheap, try a few bags and see what you find. If your stove is finicky might best stay away.

That is very true. You should be able to get some green label Lignetics, or Hamer Hot Ones for that price. I do like them though, as compared to some other pellets I have burned. I will give an update on this years, once I burn through a few bags.

I find the above advice to be sound with any pellet!

I bought 3 tons 2 years ago-the first year I had the pellet stove. Way too many fines, I shook each bag so the fines settled to the bottom, poured in all but the bottom, Once every few weeks I would sift the fines thru a strainer. Pain in the neck. But on the up side, I contacted Peeningtons to complain and they sent me a check for all 3 tons. Became a cheap season.

That is what made me initially try them last year, that despite the complaints, I had documented cases on here of them happily giving a full refund.

Not trying to get people to "pick through all of their bags in a ton and call them, if they have problems".

You should see their Ohio plant, it is state of the art, good old American innovation at work. You can check out the video buy "like"ing them on Facebook. It is pretty impressive to me.

Of course, I liked the 15 bags I burned last year, before I saw the video this year. My experience with last years Penningtons gave me no reservations to buying them at 219.00 per ton at Home Depot this year.

I bought about 20 bags from Walmart back in 07-08, did not like the qaulity at all. But i think the Takeman is right i probably just hit a bad batch.

Got one ton from walmart a few years ago and
thought they were garbage. More fines in each
bag than I'd ever seen. Heat wasn't anything to
rave about either. Contacted the Mfg and they
wouldn't do anything for me without a "lot" number
which I didn't have. Went back to walmart
and they couldn't seem to provide me with
this lot number either. Enough quality pellets
around me that I don't have to settle for junk.

I think Pennington must have many sources for pellets. For instance they have a joint venture with an oak flooring company about 35 miles from where I live in Arkansas. This said, there must be variations in their product for sure. That plant also had an over abundance of tons just sitting in an old wal mart store and parking lot. Surely they have shipped them out by now. Probably up north to you guys. :)
