Actually, I think they are both good looking stoves. Enjoy the new heater.

Ernie, I was just messin' with ya'.
BrotherBart has it, you were going back and forth with 2 other, smaller stoves, then it seemed like BAM, the 30.
Small stove, small fire, bigger stove, bigger or smaller fire. $300 diff., I know what I'd do.

Go with the 30NC. Bought one last year, heats my 2300 Sq Ft ranch just fine. Wife and 3 daughters love the heat. Only about $300.00 dollars more than 13nc. Can't believe we use to keep house at 64f at night and 67f during day using propane. Lol House never goes below 75f now. No problems with overnight burns either. Get that baby in before it gets cold.

Thanks DD, I am going to Home Depot this weekend, I was supposed to go today but I got called into work.....
How much home depot selling them for? Go to post office get 10% off coupon for Lowes from movers pack. Home depot will honor it. Lowes also sells same stove just different name, there brand Summers Heat. Bought mine from Ebay paid $900 shipped to my front door.

I would say that 30 would treat your great. I have an 1100 sqft ranch single story and a cold crawl space for a basement, soso insulation. I can just barely squeeze by in the very dead of the winter with my little 13NC. Next time around I will make sure to go bigger, but I am still happy as a clam with it, the rest of the heating season I can easily heat my self out of the house.

How many cords did you go through last year with your 13? I only burned on and off a couple of months last year so I don't really have a guage.

I burned 2.5 cords and 3/4 tank of oil. I don't burn wood during the day (I leave a 530am and come home at 4pm). Since It was my first year burning (and it was a rather cold winter) I am hoping for 2 cords and 1/2 tank oil this year.

Home Depot has it for 999.99 plus I got the 10% coupon so you figure around 900.00.....

So here is the latest, I went to home depot and they did not have any NC 30's in stock so I told the Manager if she can sell me the floor model and she said NO. I explained to her that I have been looking for this stove for a week now, she felt bad for me and decided to sell me the stove. I asked her the price and she said $999.99, I asked for a discount and she said that she could not discount the stove because it is the floor model and they just put it out 2 weeks ago and they sold out on the stock they had (I quote the manager "they are selling like hot cakes". I looked at the stove and I looked at the manager and I said; the stove has surface scratches and it was missing the manual (I already downloaded it). The manger looked at me and said OK, I will give you 10 % off....So guess what I took it. To make matters better I had a 10% off Movers coupon, so the total price $800.00 for a new Englander 30 during peak season.....Hurray for me....

Now comes the labor, I will be building my raised Hearth in the following order:

2 x 4 wood studs (no R value)
3/4 Plywood (no R value)
1 1/2 inch Metal studs face down for more support (2.14 R value air space)
1 inch cement boards(.52 R value)
1/4 inch Tile (.01 R value)

Total R value 2.67 - a bit over the 1.5 required

Thanks to all for the wonderful feed back on the NC 30 reviews and recommendations, I will be posting pictures on the project is complete.

A special thanks to Brother Bart.....

SO I WENT FROM NC 13, OSBURN 2200 AND THE WINNER IS..........THE NC 30..... BRING IT MR. WINTER!!!!!!!!

Hi Ernienomoreoil,
I’m glad you choose to go bigger! This is great news since, as long as I’ve been in the hearth business, I can see that bigger is always definitely better, especially if you’re looking for heat!
Now, since you decide to go bigger, you can take a look at the Osburn 2300 too. This unit is not only available on legs too (since looks are important) but it also comes with blower included, and as FyreBug stated, you will have an overall better quality product. All the best!

Hi Ernie

Out of curiosity, what was the deciding factor between Englander & Osburn?

Ease of shopping at home depot and the price, most of all the heat output that others say the NC 30 gives......

Congrads Ernie on your new stove and at a great price. I purchased my nc30 earlier in the year at True Value Hardware store for 1099.00 plus tax and still happy at that price for the value this stove provides. This will be our first year with a wood stove verses the prefab fireplace insert we've burned for years that had to be fed every 2-3 hours. I can hardly wait for cold weather just to fire up the stove and smile and wave at the pro-pain man as he drives on by.

Westside I have a prefab fireplace we use to burn in too. My NC30 puts out about ten times the heat while consuming a lot less wood. Fireplace is used for ambiance on the weekends and every time I use it I think about how much more heat throwing that wood in the stove would create.

Waking up this thread.
Ernie, have you had the time to get your hearth built, and the 30 installed?
Just curious how it's working for you, now that temps have gotten a little cooler.
