I poured a 2" concrete pad to put my Austral on. The question I have is how long of a cure should I give it before I light my first fire? I poured it on the 3rd of October and set the stove on the pad tonight so it is now all hooked up and ready to go once the concrete is ready.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Are you worried about the conrete ?
Not sure what kind of concrete you used, but they all have diff cure times. Check with the manufacturer's specs.
In my opnion 5 days should be ok indoors. If you put the stove on it and it didn't crack your good to go.

I think he's worried about cracking the concrete due to curing too quickly. I would think you might want to give it atleast another week to cure before you start throwing too much heat at it. Then again, it is only 2"...

Crank it up. Do not worry about the concrete, you are good to go. I installed a pad for a relitive last year and we had the stove cooking the next day, still no cracks. Concrete takes about 30+ years to fully cure, dont wait.

It takes 27 years for concrete to fully cure.

The wait is totally up to you but as long as you have the stove ready, you should also be ready; therefore, wait only on the weather.

Yep this was my concern. I have at least another 3 days built into my wait now as the temps are forecast for 50's at night and 70's during the day.

It just can't get cold fast enough for me! :)

The seven day wait is for strength / hardness. You can have a regular fire in the stove anytime after the concrete is dry.

The cement needs moisture to cure, so don't bake it off. To test this place a vapor proof (plastic) object flat on the cement, leave it for at least 12 hours and check for moisture trapped underneath.

If you have a concern you can add moisture by flooding/mopping/spraying the surface. A reflective barrier under the stove would help to reduce the heat transfer and evaporation if you are concerned.

After 3 or 4 days you should be good to go.
Burn away,

Garett

I had the air conditioner on in the car today on the way home from the Badger game. Madison hit
85 degrees yesterday.

Based on the forecast over the next few days, you've got some time before you'll need to burn.

To be absolutely safe. Wait 27 years.
