Just curious what kind of wood are you are burning.

I recently used some soft maple that was stored in a garage at my parents cabin for a year and it still wasn't the best. It worked but could have been better.

I have a Buck 74 that I installed two years ago to replace an old smoke dragon...I have it as a freestanding stove, not an insert...and I do not have/use the blower. I easily heat my entire 1600 sq. ft house even in the extreme cold. I do agree that there was a very big learning curve with this stove though, especially after using the old non-EPA stove. It is a very well built stove and you should be very happy with it in long run.

Southland,

When I purchased the 74 I thought the blower was going to be too small, does the blower on your 51 work well? Can you heat the majority of your house with it?

The blower works well and I use the stove as my primary heat in the winter.

Thanks again for all of your help. I fired that bad boy up twice this weekend and had the whole house toasty. Took a little while but I have the hang of it now. Bring on the cold!
