he was 190lb hanging but we hunt nowhere close to agricultural land.
the racks arent as large as they should be considering the size of the deer ;-)

sorry,it was 180lb hanging.. just got the word from my wife %-P :)

I hunt up in the Catskills NY, the weapon of choice is a Marlin 35 Level action, with a Simmons scope, inexpensive gun and scope. but it does the trick, three bullets three deer., no wall hangers, but they were good to eat!!

I took a nice fat doe this morning about 8:30. 22 yards with a compound bow. I got a late start and didn't even get into my stand until 7:00 which was sunrise so it was already light. Since its so warm I'll cut this one up tomorrow and go back out again next Saturday. We get 4 tags for bow season here in Connecticut, so I'm not choosy over the first couple of deer. "If its brown, its down" is my motto. Once I've got a bunch in the freezer I can start to get particular. I've got 6 more tags between shotgun, rifle and muzzle loader.

My buddy killed one that was probably 190 pounds on the hoof last year - a big deer for that country. The closest corn field is at least 10 miles away. I've seen some really big bodied deer over in the spruce forest country in WV. It gets a little chilly over there.

I am being lazy here in MD, bow season has already started, I am just waiting for a good frost to get rid of the chiggers and ticks, for some reason those things love me, surprised I haven't gotten lyme disease yet seeing how many times I have been bitten.

This will be my first season hunting with a bow, I usually wait till rifle season and use a Marlin lever action 30-30, no scope just fixed sights, the farm I hunt I can usually get within 50-75 yards on the ground.

Season opens next week in Georgia, runs thru mid January 2 Bucks/10 Does allowed
Season opens in November in Fl, 2 bucks a day thru end of January.....one Doe weekend hunt.

Using pre-64 Winchester 30-06 that can shoot one hole groups at 100 yds with 180 grain Barnes Triple Shock & Remington 700 Ti 7mm-08 shooting littlebitty groups using 140 grain Barnes Triple Shock. I've 'retired' my .243 Browning BAR. I load all my own ammunition.

Also hunt Ducks, Dove and the occasional Quail.

MA bow season starts on Monday and I'm really looking forward to it. I took a 5 pointer last year with the bow. Got a doe tag this year and am planning on hunting all shotgun and primitive firearms season with it. I hope I get one because I'm "on fumes Mav" and gotta restock the freezer.

I meant to mention I got a new muzzleloader last year and I plan on hunting with that.....not the doe tag....doe tags don't shoot real good haha

Watched two spikes fight Saturday morning. Pretty comical. Didn't take any shots, lookin for something a little bigger. I really love to bow hunt with my Darton bows. When gun season rolls around I use a T/C Omega muzzle loader.
Pile o' wood, I haven't heard of those towns. I live and hunt in Dutchess county and hunt in Ulster and Columbia counties occasionally.
Loon, Very nice deer there !! The 7600 pumps are great guns for the big woods. The Benoits helped make them famous. Looks like you know how too use one too !!
Good luck to all.

My only real bragging right is the bull elk I downed in Colorado, the Presidential Range, in October a few years ago at 560 yds. Was with a guide, spotted a herd across a saddle on another mountain top, altitude just under 13,000 ft. The guide had great binoculars, much better than mine, and picked out a bull lying in the mountain grass. We crawled on our bellies as close as we could get without being seen, and that was 560 yds from the bull, as shown on the guides laser range finder. Took the shot from prone, bi-pod plus forearm on my backpack. Aim point was about 18" above his back. Would have been a one shot kill if the bull had been standing, but since it was lying down, the body "flattened" out, and the 7mm STW hit just under his chest and broke both a front and back leg that were folded underneath. The bull got up and made it over the top and about another 200 yds down the mountain, where I then dropped him with a second shot. Quartered and boned him out, and the guide and I then packed out the meat and antlers down the mountain, a 6 hour trek at night, no trail to follow. Absolutely exhausting.

The gun is an all-weather stainless, fluted barrel, Weatherby Mark V, 7mm STW, sighted in at 2" high at 300 yds, Leupold Vx 3, 3.5-10. At that sighting I was able to place a 5 shot group in a 3" circle from a sandbag bench rest. Trigger pull is inperceptible. This is the finest rifle I ever have owned or shot. I now changed the sighting to 1" high at 200yds, essentially flat out to 300ds, and use it for deer hunting. A little over-kill, but the gun is an absolute joy to handle and shoot.

Myself and two buddies just had a weekend Bow hunt and we came back with a nice 8 pt Buck. I am guessing it was about 3 years old from his teeth. Just took him to the butchers last night and he weighed 128 # dressed. Probably tipped in at around 200 # on hoof live weight.
Loon, those are nice deer there!

BTW, my question is how far do you think deer will swim when travelling?
