Hi:
New here. I have a drolet 1400I. I removed the top tubes and fire bricks to clean the chimney (royal pain to get to any other way). Above the fire brick was an insulation blanket (1 1/2 by 2 foot) that is pretty torn up (will not go back in). The part number is 21037. I contacted a dealer and they want $65 for it. Does anyone know if I have to put it back? Is there any other insulation that will work? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The ceramic insulation blanket keeps the fire hotter and cleaner burning. It should be in there.

FYI - I saw someone yesterday selling cut sections of kaowool blanket on eBay for about $7/sq ft.

Hey there,

I have the same fireplace insert and just cleaned it out last weekend. Your right the burn tubes are a pain to get out and I needed to remove the fire bricks on one side to get them out. My blanket was in pretty good shape but your right they do pull apart pretty easily. I would also say that they are necessary (did you keep that 6" metal disk that was on top?). I think that the material of the blanket is Kaowool or somethign like that as was posted earlier.

Let us know what you find out on a price for that blanket.

I found an SBI Blanket on Copperfield.com where I bought the unit. It is a closeout at $22 ($10 for ship + tax) and returnable. I am also not sure of the specifications yet as it is an older product and they do not have the info, but it is returnable. I do still have the wool weight & the owner's manual has been somewhat helpful. The original blanket (as I piece it together) looks to be about 12" x 24" If it does not work out, I found it by the foot for $4.50 (not sure about shipping) or I have a HVAC contractor that will order it for me.
Thanks to BeGreen I know what to look for.
I'll update in a few days when I get the part from copperfield. It is being shipped from CA.

Hi Guys, as BeGreen stated it does keep the fire box hotter which helps the secondary combustion. However, if you dont put it in you will lose some efficiency but it will still work fine.

I bought 2 running feet of 1" 2300 degree Kaowool from anvilfire.com. It took one foot so I have one foot for next year when i clean the flu. It is back together and of course the weather has warmed up so I have not fired it up yet. Thanks to all for setting me in the right direction.

I'm planning to use a piece of the foil insulated blanket that I had left over from installing my liner. My assumption is that placing the foil side up, it'll protect the blanket from the ash. Has anyone else used the foil blanket for this purpose?
