Boring, Oregon
Just wanted to say thanks for the collective knowledge I was able to learn from everyone here at Hearth. Lurked for a few years and learned alot, you guys helped me pick the perfect stove for my home and family. Went with the Alderlea T5 and impressed so far. Seals down tight and feels like a mellow-even heat compared to the steel stoves I've had in the past and present. I know its just a steel box wrapped in cast shields, but it does make a difference in the way it feels in the room. Love the looks and the wife seems to approve, however not convinced that burning 24/7 will be possible.
I grew up with wood heat and was charged with cutting/spitting/stacking/stoking for a 2000 sf. split entry style house in Portland Or. Got away from wood heat as soon as I move out of my folks house in 1990 so its been a while since I split a cord of wood. Wow, thats a not a set of muscles used for much else. But it does feel good to get back into the swing of things as we've been paying around $200/month for electric heat. Live on 2 acres of woods, big firs and big maple with some small alder and lots of scrub.
Thanks agian and I'll post more progress pics as I get the stone work finished up.

Congratulations. The stove should do you well. It has great long burn times and is an easy stove to run. Feed it dry wood and it will do well. Come cold weather, your wife will love it even more.

Good looking install and good choice on the stove. Can't ask for more than that!

Lookin' good, Tuna!! Nice setup you've got there!!

Hey, is that a Raider game I see on your t.v.?!?!?!

Nice install.. looks great. Hey, if that is a Raider game you might want to change to something more interesting, like Mr. Rogers!

what did you finally use to keep the mantel up on the wall?

I ended up drilling 1/2" x 10" lags into 4 of the studs, then I cut the head off the lags leaving 4 - 1/2" posts sticking out of the wall. Drilled 4 corresponding holes in the back of the log and slid it on. Worked really well, just not much margin for error.

Looks good. Not sure why 24/7 is not possible though. You have it, you may as well use it as much as possible.

Stone is done! Wow thats a ton of work, literally. Stone took a lot longer than I had thought, the rock I picked out had 7 different size pieces. That made it nearly impossible to get a system going. Just 1 piece at a time for 2 full days. As for the stove, I'm loving it. Anybody even remotely considering a Alderlea should get out the wallet with confidence. Only complaint so far is from the wife, she thinks the door shuts too tight!

Thanks again, Ryan

Well done on the Stone work, looks great. I belive the T6 is the same firebox as the Summitt. Yes it is a very tight closeing door. Caught the wife only halfway closing it a couple times.

That really turned out nice! Tell the wife she should be thankful that door shuts so tight.

Nice room make over! I really like the stone work. That might even hold heat for you too!

Looks very nice, should of built in a wood rack next to the stove with that stone.

Outstanding Job!

Doesn't even look like the same room. ;-)
