I got a bunch of free Super Cedars at the Woodstock BBQ from our beloved Hearth.com Craig - actually Dennis (Backwoods Savage) was good enough to save me a few. These things are terrific! I used one for the first time today - laid down some kindling, placed 1/4 wafer of Super Cedar on top, a little more kindling near the wafer, and with one match and no newspaper it lit like a charm! I even got a good draft going without having to preheat the flue. Newspapers are a pain because they burn out too quick and sometimes smolder so I have to relight a couple times to get the wood to catch. These Cedars burn hot enough so the flue gets warmed fast. They also take up less space than storing newspapers. Of course pretty soon I will light the last match of the season when we start burning 24/7. Right now its a fire every other day or so during shoulder season.

I've got to order me some of these!! Have read way too many positive things about them, and knowing you only really need to use 1/4 of them each startup is great. I've been using Fat Sticks for 2 years now, but still have to use paper with them.

I asked for a sample but never got it. I guess I won't be ordering any.

I made the egg carton, dryer lint, wax homemade fire starters and they work good but no where near as good as the Super Cedars. The super cedars burn hotter and the entire piece catches faster. With my homemades ones it takes longer for the whole thing to be in flames. I think I will still order some.

Tony, glad you got some of those super cedars when at Woodstock. I'm still passing some out. lol BIL came yesterday so we gave him some samples. Trouble is, now I'm giving out from our own supply.

On the fatwood, my wife used to really like them (claims she still does) but the super cedars work so darned much better and no worries about the cat. I do have to break them ahead of time because she has a bit of a problem breaking them. To do it, I leave them in the wrapper and then simply use my hands.

I'm not even sure a sample should be necessary at this point. All of the positive reviews from experienced wood burners on here, is all the sampling I need.

Half a Supercedar and half a dozen BioBricks equals the utimate no-brain fire. Light it, leave it until the stove thermometer gets to about 400, shut the draft down half and then all the way 10 minutes later and it's good for the next 3 hours. Pefect for shoulder season. No kindling, no paper, no fuss.

I got two free samples last year. Used the first one to GREAT!!! success and will will treat the second one like priceless artwork, already put it in my will. They are the best starters ever!

yeah, that's next to bum **** Egypt!

That is the only problem. If it wasn't for the freight I would stop cutting wood and just burn Super Cedars by the pallet full. I would just need to design a auger feeder for the 30-NC that would drop one in the middle of it every thirty minutes. Would only cost me eight hundred a month to heat the place but man it would be easy.

Hey you must have gotten mine. >:-( I asked and never received.

Oh Yeah, they're great. They make starting a fire so easy that a cheap guy like me will spring for them. I used to come home and see an assortment of burned paper and charred wood in the stove, not to mention the cold house and frustrated wife. Now she can start fires quickly and easily. I guess then, this fantastic product is costing me money (about ten cents a fire) and will cost me more wood! Oh well, as long as I don't need to coax the fire along each morning it will be worth it.

I also think the Super Cedar guys may have been involved in a different industry at one point. The saying the first one is free comes to mind. Really, the free sample is a pre shipment for the order you will place after "sampling the goods"!

We do try to ship the sample requests ASAP. I am wondering if they are getting lost "in the mail". Please email us again if you did not receive them. I have heard of three people now that did not receive them. Not bad out of thousands but still 3 too many. Email us at [email protected] for your free samples.
Thanks to all for your comments and support.

Just got my box of 72 eco (unwrapped) Supercedars, after having used the samples last year, they are fantastic! 1/4 piece does the trick, as mentioned above. Makes starting fires in shoulder season a breeze!

Ok I'm now sold on Super Cedars beats the heck out of fat wood . I used 1/2 of one and what a easy start no kidling or anything just some splits and good to go!!!!!!!!!

FYI - If your wood is properly seasoned you don't need to use kindling at all with Super Cedars.

We don't need kindling for sure with the Super Cedars. But then, we don't need Super Cedars either to start a fire; it just makes it easier.

Some of us still use the kindling and it does speed up the heating process. Kindling is just another little "tool" we use when starting fires. Like an axe or cant hook. You can get by without them for sure but it just makes things go much nicer and easier. It's a tool. With a hydraulic splitter I actually have fun making kindling from soft maple and the soft maple starts super easy and burns hot.

I break 3 or 4 of them up into quarters at a time and keep in a plastic bag.

Thanks guys. This got me to ask for some samples. I'd really like to try them out during the morning routine in terms of lighting it around some good sized splits, walking away, coming back in 10-15 minutes and closing the door and damper bypass all the way, and then in another 15 minutes closing the bypass and leaving for work.

You'll be happy with the Cedars. There is only one problem that I found with the Super Cedar samples.

1) You order the sample
2) You get the sample and try it out. You find out its the best damn thing since sliced bread
3) You start using the samples to start your fires
4) You order a case of 'em
5) Your samples run out before the case you ordered arrives <-- this is the problem.

They really are that good. I used to use those wax/sawdust firestarters you got from whatever big-box store is close by and they worked too, but not as well as the Cedars. They're typically less expensive than the SuperCedars, however given the choice between giving my money to the ~awesome~ super cedar folks, who are very active on this forum, or the local big-box retail enterprise...yeah, I'll choose the independent guy in a heartbeat, especially when the product rocks.
