Any Napoleon owner out there that knows if possible to only have the convection blower running (like a test) so when cleaning the unit it will help suck the dust particles when cleaning the ash.

I will call the manufacturer tomorrow but thought about asking the gang here....... :)

If the control panel is like my Enviro. All you need to do is turn it on and right back off. Quickly.

I slide the stat switch to manual. and hit the on and hit it right back off. It might drop a few pellets but it doesn't start the ignitor. Then try opening the door to clean. Don't for get to put the switch back to your setting or the stove will not start in the morning.

Let me know if it works for you?

Edit: geek, if you leave the door open and do the on/off cycle it should not drop pellets. This is also a good test to see if the vacuum switch is doing its job.

Its the combustion blower.. on my Quadrafire Castile I just turn it on and off real quick and the combustion blower will run for 18 minutes and keeps all the powdery ash you stir up out of your face..

I am not sure of your answer, but with my model, if I were to turn on the auger feed then the ignition key, the stove runs. Turn off the auger feed and the stove still runs. the stoves tries to lite pellets, but with no pellets dropping in the burn pot it will run for about 15 min. then shut down. I am going to enclose a link to the manual to your stove. the control panel is on page 29. perhaps some of our experienced members can shed some insight. Good luck http://www.napoleonfireplaces.com/Tech/installation_manuals/NPS45_NPI45.pdf

Convection motor is just going to blow ash in your face. Perhaps you are speaking of the combustion motor?

that's what I meant Scott, combustion blower so it will start sucking back and out into the pipe outside.

Will try Jay's suggestion, makes sense.

then you would want the exhaust blower going, that wont happen unless you press the button on the NPS

all i do is vacuum with a soft paint brush and suck up the dust

You could also install a double pole double throw toggle switch so that the fan is connected to the control board in one position and to good old 120 vac (or whatever the fan can actually stand*) in the other (folks don't do this if you are not familiar with working with electrical or electronic devices and always have the stove shut down and unplugged).

Remember modifications void a lot of things like warranties and listings and may cause you problems with insurance coverage if something goes wrong.

Playing with electricity can be deadly.

* Not all fans are operated on AC let alone 120 volt ac so be certain of what the fan requires.

One position is used while the stove is running and the other while cleaning.
